ETA on this dongle is today and I've been frantically F5ing the page even though I set the notification option. Can't wait for this so I can plug my MBP into my 42" LCD and get some old school Phantasy Star Online and Boxee internet TV going. Anyone else going to pick this up?

I see, however you must have remapped your keys. F5 does not refresh the page on my Macbook Air or my iMac. On my Air it's the backlit keyboard control and hitting the function key plus F5 does nothing. At any rate I am looking for this cable as well. Have you tried calling the reseller to get an ETA?

Talked to a service rep in a live chat, who said they are scheduled to arrive later today. They weren't sure if the adapters would definitely arrive with the shipment though. Was just wondering if anyone else was planning on hooking up their Late 2008 Macbooks to their HDTVs like I am.

Only HDMI-to-HDMI carries sound with it. This will probably be the same as a HDMI-to-DVI or HDMI to anything really (only carrying video)

    Oh, boo.

So you'd need the MiniDP -> HDMI adapter, as well as an optical cable?

    Yes.

Why do you think Apple hasn't come out with there own HDMI adapter? Because the miniDP does not support audio.

The DP spec does support audio, but Apple's implementation does not. The guys at Gizmodo tested it out to make sure. That's not to say that Apple can't release a firmware update to enable audio though. Oh, and the adapters are on sale at amazon.com. Just ordered mine!

    OFF TOPIC.
mini-displayport sucks. It cost more for a mini-displayport to DVi adapter, and I wonder why it wasn't came with the macbook, isn't it an essential adapter for a laptop??? It took me an extra trip to Frys( electronic store) to get it.

Well I received my toggle today from monoprice and it works great, there is no sound but as others suggested it maybe a update later on. One thing i can't figure out is how to make my external monitor the main on, I'd like to semi close macbook and just use ext. monitor any suggestions, thx!

After some looking around and some tweaking later I was able to get it going, and then I found this also http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 hope it helps someone.
