I'm not sure if this is an off topic or not, but were going to go with it here for the time being. I just got done upgrading to 3.0 on the 2g iPhone via redsn0w. I have to say the sideways texting is a huge improvement. I want to copy/past every once in a while, but I think for the moment, it's not a huge improvement. Maybe that will be bigger down the road. The other thing I wanted was MMS, but I'm not sure it works with T-Mobile. I heard and I could be wrong, it's not working with AT&T at the moment. I'll have to have someone send me one latter today to see if it works. Other than those few things, I didn't see anything majorly different, but the texting is huge. Anyone else want to share some thoughts?

iPhone OS 3.0 didn't do too much for me on my iPod Touch, but the iPhone SDK 3.0 is so much better than 2.x. I think that as a result most developers will soon discard support for OS 2.x and move onto 3.x, so in that respect upgrading to 3.0 would mean being able to run the latest and newest apps in the future.

The New IPhone 3GS Parody - A funny movie is a click awayLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I upgraded a couple of days ago. Love the new features, especially landscape texting.
MMS doesn't work with the 2g iPhone. -
- love the MMS and tethering option
- landscape texting is great
- push notifications will hopefully become more handy -
Budding, you paid the $10 or £ as the case may be? It's sad they charge iTod users. They ain't cheap either. I heard MMS didn't work with 2G. I was just hoping maybe it'd work with T-Mobile. I don't care so much about the tethering. I'm on T-Mobile prepay anyway. I don't want to pay $70 a month to get it. I just like the free WiFi at work, home too.

Yeah, I had to pay the £6 or £7 to upgrade. This is the second time I've had to do that, guess I'm getting used to Apple's ways of robbing people
Gotta start saving up for an expensive Macbook next. -
Interesting. I saw where the upgrade rate for the touch is very low but very high on the phone, where it's free.
-
Yes and now none of my apps work.

I upgraded my Ipod Touch and like the new features. I just ordered an iPhone 3gs and it should arrive on Tuesday. I currently have a Blackberry Storm which is the biggest piece of junk and refuses to accurately sync with my MBP.

I upgraded to v3.0 on my 2G and 3G. So far everything is going well. I'm currently trying to off load the 2G as I upgrade to the new 3GS (32GB). Quite a good deal here in France. 325€, with 100€ back for upgrading, making it 225€, I gonna try and get as close to 200€ as I can making the upgrade almost free !

ps the 3G is definitely snappier and better running 3.0. -
It's not often I chat with someone who has been here longer than I and a former Mod too. You thought I forgot.
It does seem to be to be running a bit better with 3.0. We'll see how it goes the next few days. The sideways texting was my big thing. The keyboard works so much better. The rest like tethering, copy/paste, etc., I didn't really care about. The MMS would have been a bonus, but as I said, I hope someone figures it out soon. It looks like Apple took out the part where you can put in the enter the settings for MMS on the 2G. I don't know why. Maybe they want you to upgrade. It looks very Microsoft like. -
I have tried reloading the apps, restoring the phone, and re syncing the phone and still nothing.
When I try to load the app it shows the apps loading screen for a few seconds then goes right back to the main screen. -
Are you crackerjacked or on AT&T? Maybe you want to try it again.
-
Do you have any major problems ZaZ? I also have 2g and not sure what to do...
-
on my ipod touch i got the update, thinking it was mandatory if i wanted to buy more app's later on. i also wanted it for the blue-tooth functionality so i could hook up my headset through skype to chat with friends on the go when i'm in a wifi area... but sadly i couldn't pair it up at all
-
Really starting to get angry, I have tried everything I can think off but my 3rd party apps will still not load. I touch the icon and it shows the apps loading screen for a second then goes right back to the main screen.

I upgrade my first generation iphone software to 3.0, it feels kinda slow, but I like it.

I was with Verizon and used a Blackberry for a while until it broke. iPhone isn't available on Verizon so I got the Storm and have hated the experience. I should have just switched to ATT and got the iPhone in the first place. -
I upgraded my iPhone 3G and it went well and was nice, no problems... then my boyfriend got a 32gb 3G S and traded with me, so... I'm loving the 3G S... the Voice Control thing is really nice, but you don't get that on just 3.0 software.

does it "feel" faster?
-
-
^^^
Not quite true, 3.0 does bring speed improvements esp in Javascript etc.
-
-
-
The benchmark is more about how fast safari will load a web page, so while the general speed of the iphone won't change, you should notice a speed increase in webpage rendering.

I've noticed a few things with the 3GS (got it yesterday). The screen is resists smudges very well and cleans quickly. The compass and GPS seem to suffer from interference if you are in a room full of electronics. At home the work perfectly but at work they were very inaccurate. As for the 3.0 upgrade on my iPod touch, I've had no problems but it doesn't feel any faster. The search, Cut n Paste and such are worth the $10.
-
Apparently I had to restore my iPhone then install the Apps from within iTunes to get them to work. What a pain.
Anyone Else Upgrade to 3.0?
