Like many others Im holding of buying a macbook until rev B is released, but would much rather have a portable MBP (15.4 is to big for me). So what do you guys think -- any chance that apple might add a smaller MBP to their line-up? In my opinion there is room for such a laptop to compete with dell xps m1210, sony sz etc.

I don't know, it does seem like a lot of people would like it, but I'm not really sure if we'll see something like that any time soon. Technically it seems like all they need to do is make a 13.3" MBP with the same basic specs as the MB except perhaps with a better video card (probably not an X1600, but maybe a GeForce 7400 like the M1210 and Sony SZ) and maybe ExpressCard, and they'd have something.

I don't know though. Have you taken a look at the 15.4" MBP in person? One thing that has struck me is that it isn't really that much bigger than the 13.3" MB, really. I used to also be in the same boat as you (hoping for a 13.3" MBP), but after seeing the size difference, I am feeling like the 15.4" MBP is still small enough to fit my needs (Normally I also like smaller laptops....... my previous laptop was a Sony Vaio S360, for example).

I think if they at least put an Intel X3000 in the Macbook it would be my next laptop:

but not till then. If no changes in the Macbook I may decide on either a Sony SZ381 or a MBP if the MBP has Merom next week. If no changes next week in MB/MBP I will probably get an SZ.

Also the expected launch of the X3000 is with the Core 2 duo processors, so I would expect the X3000 perhaps as soon as the MB gets Merom.

The mobile version of the X3000 is slated to be part of the Santa Rosa platform which is to be released Q1 2007.

As for a smaller MBP, I kinda doubt it. If you look at the pricing structure of the MBP and where would it fit? They can't price it at $1500, becuase that wuld ill MacBook sales. Maybe like $1700 or $1800, but it just does not seem likely. Also, consider there have been zero rumors of a MBP in that size since Apple said the lineup was complete.

Well, conceivably if Apple made a smaller MBP, they could still price it higher, in line with the pricing of something like the Sony SZ series. It seems to be generally understood that just because it is a smaller notebook doesn't mean it would have to be cheaper than the 15.4" MBP.

But yeah, I agree, I don't think it's something Apple is going to be making any time soon. Then again, they did make the 12" PowerBook G4, so it's not like it's out of the question for them to do something similar.

Heh, i'd go for a 13" MBP if it were cheaper. Or... put a dedicated vid card in the MB. Either would be pretty sweet, but not likely to happen.

Correct, Ultra Portables are usually more expensive than the norm (15.4" form factor).

I would love a 13.3 mbp. Something like the vaio sz's specs made by apple.
