Hey guys! I'm writing this off my new MBP 2.4ghz/256 video

And I just felt I'd share my "switching story" with you guys, because you've helped me with your replies, and this is the least I can do.

Well, the second I got it out of the pretty box, my heart started to pound like crazy - I felt like a 5 year old kid underneath the christmas tree! :)

As I first took the MPB in my hand I could only think one thing - "This cannot weigh only 2.4kg!!" It is so light! When I opened the lid I almost pissed my pants when I saw the screen and the keyboard.

That could be the 3 beers I had before or the excitement of having my first laptop, my first Mac.

I plugged it in, I hit the power button, next thing I know I'm in OS X. I've messed with OS X on my Intel desktop back home, and I though it was pretty nice, but the speed on this little monster! I was literally speechles!

So of course, the first thing I did was open up "About this Mac" to see that I've got what I paid for, and after that I opened iTunes and plugged in my 30g video iPod. Then I started ripping some audio cds I had lying around just to see how that feels. Needless to say, it felt great!

After a couple of more hours of fiddling with OSX, I got Bootcamp on, burned the cd, and installed Vista Home Premium. Everything went fine, with the drivers and all that, but really (I've been a PC guy since I can remember) Vista felt so lifeless. There was nothing to... like... uh...do!

So I just quickly installed my Pro Evolution Soccer, Half Life 2 and Stalker (and might I say, they run like crazy) and then went back to OSX.

I'm a musician and I compose soundtracks for games, and I need Windows to be able to play the frikking games (and have decent 3d power), but I've always wanted to run all my audio apps and tools on something as reliable as a Mac.

And now I have the best of both worlds, in a Mac chassis.
I feel great! I feel extatic! Drinks on me tonight! :D

And you guys, thanks for all the info and insight, maybe if it weren't for you, I'd now have the Asus G1s, which, I'm sorry to say this, but it looks down right awfull compared to the 1" MBP. And from what benchmarks I've seen, it actually performs worse than the MBP.

So thank you guys, and I'll see you around the various Apple threads, as now I'm proud to say - "I own a mac. I love my mac. I still like Windows, but not as much." :D :D

    Cheers!

It seems like the new models that Apple has turned out have been the most successful in terms of customer satisfaction. Apple got the latest MBP right. The graphics, the SR chipset, LED display and all the rest of the bells and whistles and of course the prettiness.
Congrats man on your new baby. You will love OS X each day you fire up your Mac. Wait unitl Leopard gets here, you will be very happy. It's good to have it all in one machine.

I love Mac, but I also love PC, they are both good at one thing or another, and I think Vista is a step in the right direction for MS, if only they hadn't rushed it out to compete with Tiger. Anyway, my question to all of the switchers is:
Why do we have to be switchers? Can't we use both without hating or prefering by a large margin one or the other? Does anyone else think that the polarisation of the industry (especially with those heart-wrenching "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC commercials") is as hurtful as I think it is? Even Linux users say that they are staying out of the whole OS war, but really they are just choosing the third side. I understand that the companies have to compete to stay alive, but do the consumers as well?

Well I got the stock 160Gb / 5400rpm HDD, and set it up this way:

I had ~144Gb available, so I split it in half. ~70gb ~70gb. Now I have ~55gb free on my OS X partition and about ~40gb on my Windows - but I've installed a couple of games on it...

    AlexOnFyre:
It's not about hating one or the other. You're a "switcher" when you get an awesome Mac and don't feel like ever going back to Windows. Or if you do, you feel it's empty and you absolutely HAVE to do it, otherwise, you woulnd't.

edit: sheldon77: I do have an external WD 320gb, so I don't mind having so little space on my MBP, because all my projects and files go on the external, and with firewire- the speed is awesome!

Well bootcamp is the best one, if you don't mind rebooting everytime you want to switch. But on the other hand, windows runs natively on bootcamp. The only thin you need to check is that your OS X is up to date with the latest updates. I see in your sig you have the new MBP so you should be just fine...

If you want to be able to switch between OSes without rebooting, get Paralells.

With bootcamp it's pretty straight forward: Donload it from the apple website (apple.com/bootcamp) and run it, and it will ask you for a blank cd. Then it burns all the windows drivers you'll need for the mac hardware. Then it lets you partition your hdd and finally install windows...

Like I said, once you see it, it's pretty straight forward...

Apple already has all the drivers for you to run Windows under Boot Camp. The download will ask you to burn a DVD with all the drivers, and when you install Windows under Boot Camp you just install all the drivers and it will run fine.
