Hi, I have a 2,2GHz Santa Rosa Macbook and I have connected my 22" FCS L22W-3 LCD through a Mini-dvi to DVI adapter and a DVI-D single link cable.

When I visit some home pages like notebookreview, the display goes all black, and then the picture comes back after 1-2 seconds. This happened about 5-6 times while typing this message.
When I keep the mouse pointer on some areas there are some disortion and horisontal brown lines in the small area, like a button or so.

In Windows, the whole picture was covered with horisontal lines in the desktop, at 1680*1050 reso. There was none at 1280*800.

And the display only goes black when I an om safari and such.

What is the problem? The display works fine on other computers. Should I get a new mini-dvi adapter?
Please help, it is really annoying.

Sounds to me like a cable is lose somewhere. Have you tried connecting your Mac to other monitors? It could be your Mac's mini-DVI port that's damaged or your adaptor. Also make sure the DVI cable is screwed in properly with the monitor.

I haven't tried to connect any other monitor to the mac since I don't have any other ones with a dvi port.

The cables are connected properly, I have tried to reconnect them several times.

Ok i tried with a new mini-dvi to dvi adapter and the blackening of the screen seems to have disappeared. The disortion is still there though, the horisontal lines in f.e. flash ads.
This is what it looks like in windows @ 1680*1050

Tried with a new DVI cable, still got the same problems. This is so annoying. Is there any support to get from apple?

Boot Camp 2.0: Video issues with Windows Vista or XP

Maybe this will help. Or try drivers from LaptopVideo2Go. Quickstart Guide.

EDIT: OOPS!! I didn't read carefully, now I see you have a <noparse>MacBook</noparse> not Pro. Nevermind.

The problem is that I've got the Intel X3100 graphics card in my Macbook.

And can it really be the drivers fault? I mean, I have had some problems in Leopard too, those horisontal lines while holding the mouse pointer on a tab in Safari for example.

    Thanks for the help though

If you tried new dvi cable, you might want to try a new mini dvi->dvi adapter.

Also it could be the monitor, have you tried it at any other resolutions?

    I have a problem also.
I too have an external display. ( '19 inch HP monitor Love it)
But when I connect it to my macbook I cant make movies in quicktime and VLC full screen on the big display only. I s there a way to do that?

I want to do some work while the External Monitor shows a movie.

I have the mini-DVI to VGA cable hooked up to it.

I tried with a new mini-dvi to dvi adapter too.

The resolution should be1680*1050 since it is a 22"
But the flickering in windows kind of disappears when i go down to 1440*900.
    It is so wierd

I'm assuming that the macbook can drive a resolution that high?

I'm finding some conflicting data regarding the max resolution an x3100 can drive - try lowering the resolution and seeing if that clears it up. It could be that the video card is just choking cause it's not powerful enough.
