its like an eletrical high pitched whine.

never noticed it before. this is not on my machine but on a macbook.

is this normal? it only occurs when plugged in. i think it partly goes away if the processor is under load also, i can't really tell.

wasn't this some common issue? does apple fix this? thanks.

I am not sure; Apple has no reason to fix or replace it if the laptop is operating as it is specified. So your argument with them is really that the laptop is too noisy; but that is a matter of opinion, isn't it? Some people might agree that it is a bothersome noise, while others may not hear it at all.

Call and ask, is all I can recommend.

i did some research. apparently they do replace the logic board to minimize the noise if its an issue for you.

Yes, this is true. This electrical noise is result from voltage leaks, a very common problem with many Napa based Intel Core 2 boards. The only solution is to replace the logic board, however electrical noises are not defects, so the chances of getting a logic board that has the same problem is quite regular.
