Everything seemed sweet, got the C85 screen this time around, got a black background pic, the most horrendous backlight leakage ever, considered a defect by the engineer I talked too.

Oh, and it seems I either have a defect fan or HDD since my computer is constantly making a weird sound from the right side.

So now I'm returning it and getting a refund, I'm not going to wait 2-3 weeks again and hope that my next machine is not defect.

    Unbelievable. 3 times.

When I get my money I might buy a standard model, because it ships within 24hours, so if I get f'ed over with one of those I can get a replacement within days instead of 2-3 weeks.

But I'm going to look into pc offerings now, I waited a year for the new MBP's and this is what happened, kind of feel that Apples QC is a joke, getting a defect machine three times, who the f does that happen to lol?

Thought that the current 15" was too large but I had to sacrifice some portability I guess for the performance. So not going for the 17" at all. ^^

Well your machines were replaced when you weren't happy with them weren't they? That is more than most manufacturers would do, and Apple's QC isn't a joke, some people are just crazy unlucky or just crazy.. You should be able to get a machine that suits you, you will definitely be missing out if you look elsewhere.

It seems like every electronics company out there has a p!ss poor QA program these days - something to do with cost cutting I'm sure. I have yet to buy a single piece of electronics, be it cell phone, PC, Mac, Camera etc... that was defect free. You just have to live with some of those defects.

I don't have these kind of experiences with other companies, but I tend to be pretty unlucky when it comes to electronics, but three times, come on? The reps told me that only 5% of the consumers get defect products, thats pretty sick statistics and if true it speaks much of my luck in this matter, getting thrown in that pond of 5% three times. :p

God, I just want a defect free computer, for what I'm paying that shouldn't be too much too ask? :(

You do have to consider the variance in what is considered defects by people, most people aren't looking through their machine with a fine tooth come searching and hunting for every possible defect. The people that are, are obviously going to be able to hunt down little details, I would say with the method you are using, you could probably find little issues with almost any machine out there.

I say just keep up the effort, in some regards you can be rewarded for being very particular, WilliamG got a 24" LED Display and a free iPod nano after dealing with multiple replacements.

yeah, I got offered 90 euros before they knew that this one is also an defect.

I dont really ask for much, physically could look crap, as long as the hardware inside is functioning ok. Before I noticed this weird sound and talked to the engineer, I saw the screen thing and got pretty annoyed but I could live with it.

But when you pay this much for a machine and you dont buy apple care, I cant afford it right now, you dont really want either a broken fan or a defect HDD from start.

Probably getting a new MBP anyways, but price-wise they blow the Macs out of the water.

But we cant of course forget that we're getting mac osx and a amazing design with ugly aluminum dust on our speaker grills, slanted keyboards etc etc.

I haven't seen any slanted keys or any aluminum "dust" on my speaker grills, if it matters. I looked at the new Studio XPS notebooks but I can't stomach the look of them, from the back they look okay but front-on it the hinge looks really weird, as if it's simply bolted on.

Besides, the battery life on just about any Windows-based notebook is horrible compared to a MacBook or MacBook Pro, in Windows on a Dell XPS M1530 with an extended 9-cell battery (that stuck out the bottom and looked a bit odd) I could only squeeze 2 1/2 hours out of it in "Power saver" mode using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1. On both my previous MacBook Pro (Mid-2007) and my current MacBook Pro (Late 2008) I can get about 5 1/2 hours when running on the integrated GeForce 9400M and a little over 5 hours when using the GeForce 9600M GT during common tasks (internet, e-mail, watching YouTube videos, listening to music, etc.)

Not unbelievable. I bought a white macbook not long ago, and it was defective. Apple did an express exchange, got the second one, and it was defective. Did another return and got the third, and while not perfect, I can live with it. Unfortunately Yasir, it does happen. :(
But I really should add, that Apple support was awesome and knowlegeable. They were very friendly, and helpful. Now using my macbook for a couple months, I'm totally happy with it.

Yea, they're support is amazing. :)

I just think it sucks that they got some lame rule which disallows them of changing my order to a standard configuration so I can get it faster instead of waiting 3 weeks every time I get a defect MBP. ^^

So I'm forced to return the faulty MBP and wait 1-2 weeks to get my money back then reorder. Considering everything I've been through I'd think they'd make an exception to that lame rule but no. So here's to Apple for wasting even more of my time. :p (Quintessentially its me wasting my own time by still having some trust in this company.)

There's no hard feelings to be honest, or maybe one since they cant make that exception, but it happens and I'm not going to suddenly think Apple sucks because I got unlucky. Obviously when I detect the defects I'll go on a rant where I say I hate Apple etc, they're crap, they raped me man etc. But in the end I guess logics or gullibility rules.

Here's to hoping that in the future Apple will change they're lame rules or invest more in quality control.

lol. I've already been through 3 Aluminum Macbooks and 1 white Macbook.

White Macbook (2006): warping plastics, burning temperatures, browning palm rests, crap build quality in general made me sell this thing and get something that was actually well made (a Sony Vaio).

1st Alu MB (Jan. 2009): battery cover didn't fit anymore after I took it off and put it back on. Exchanged.
2nd Alu MB: screen flickered like crazy on low brightness. apparently other users have had this problem according to a search in the apple support forums/google. Exhanged.
3rd Alu MB: no screen problems. left side of the battery cover made some awful sounds when being pressed; didn't seem to close properly on the left side. majority of keyboard was slanted and LOTS of keys looked like they were "popping" out (like they were higher up than the others and with bigger gaps) -- mostly the keys around the middle: N, M, G, H, J, Y, U. had enough of this and refunded.

Apple has some of the worst quality control I've ever seen. Unbelievable that this is considered a "premium" product. I've had TWO different generations of Macbooks and they always seem to have build quality issues. I'm going to stay the hell away from anything Apple now.

I'm still waiting to get my money back, but I'm not sure I want to go for a Apple again, I love OSX. But the new Dell's really look great and they're pricing is sick compared to Apple, in a good way. For 16k kr which is about 2k$ you get either a XPS 16 with the full HD RGBLED screen, 4gig ddr3, 500gig hdd, 2,53ghz processor, bluray drive and a ati chip omg!

Sure its a bit bulkier on the backside, and it weighs the same as the 17" MBP. But it costs almost 1k$ less than my MBP 15" with 2,53ghz, 320hdd 7200rpm, 4gig ddr3.

I seriously don't know, I love OSX but paying 1k$ more for the OSX and less space, worser screen, nvidia chips, and no bluray.

Haha this is just too sick. :p I really want to continue being a mac owner, but this is just not fair.

Oh and lets not forget the impending release of windows 7, and the great QC of Apple which I have no confidence in at all anymore.

On the other hand, I bought a late 2008 MBP 2.8ghz and have had ZERO problems with it. Granted I haven't messed with the battery cover (the battery that came with it still works) or changed the hard drive (which I will likely do when 256g SSDs come down in price, but overall my MBP is built way better than the Dell XPS 1710 it replaced or the PCMW Clevo build in my signature.

I find it odd that if there was this tremendous trouble with QC, only a handful of customers are having issues...then again, I'm sure I can find flaws in ANY product I buy if I search hard enough...

Haha, you might want to check out the hinges stories on the M15x from Alienware. There's no such thing as a flawless line-up, especially when we're talking large amounts of products.

When I bought my '07 Macbook Pro, everybody seemed to have issues with the lower half of the screen tinting yellow, overheating and more. I had none.

Now with these Macbook Pros, with the keys, screens and what-not, I have none of these issues again.

So yeah, I'm sure it has something to do with luck, but there's no such thing as a flawless lineup.

What's happening to the OP is just ridiculous though.
