OK so here is the story. I orderer a MBP from Amazon on Thursday of last week. The estimated shipping weight is 10.20 lbs. I sent the order and began tracking the shipment. Oddly the shipping weight was 54.00 pounds. I thought, must be another mistake by UPS.

I let this slide until today since I had some spare time. I just recently check the weight for the Mac Pro desktop that Apple makes and the shipping weight is ironically, 54.40 pounds. !!!!

So here is the $64,000 question. Did Amazon mess up and send me a Mac Pro or UPS just weighed the MBP wrong? If it is a MP should I keep it or get the MBP instead? I am currently having a battle between my good and my bad side. Keep it or return it. :(

I should have a definitive answer by Tuesday, the expected delivery date. ARG! Why does this always happen to me.

if im in the situation... i would like the laptop because of the portability... but since i have the dark side talking to my ear with a blazing-and-ridiculously fast desktop. i'll probably keep the 54lb package :) and buy myself another laptop not from amazon :D

i hope you get the mac pro :)

This is some crazy Christmas miracle if I get a MP.

You should keep the MP, sell it and get a MBP + maybe cash leftover?

DHL messed up a shipping weight estimate once. 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor was about ~12lbs. They said it was 29lbs.

Maybe instead of actually weighing it, someone got the weight of the MP like you did and enterred it.

Probably just an error by your courier. UPS reported that my Macbook+HP Printer+Laptop case weighted 0.5kg.
    Don't worry about it.

That was my initial thought. This is probably the third time UPS made a mistake with weight and for some reason it only occurs when I order items from Amazon. The difference between 10 pounds and 54 pounds is huge though....

Let us know whether it was a MP or MBP.

I just had time to open the box. First of all, the package is HUGE! about 3.5 to 4.5 feet tall (ball parking) maybe taller! I thought, "Wow Amazon really sent me a MP." I opened the box and.....

So empty, except for a smaller box inside. No air cushions, no shipping peanuts, nothing. Just a bunch of open space and another box. Anyway, the other box had a MBP, the one I ordered.

What the heck happened here? Amazon sends my MBP in a gynournous box. And how the hell did UPS get 54 pounds. lol. Anyway, all is well and everything is ok, for now, until I turn the MBP on. :D My first Mac.

The MP that Amazon has is the default, so it cost the same, but a bigger rebate. $200 vs $150. Then I would have to get all these after-market items, RAM, better GPU, etc. Cost more $$$ then my budget. I would have gotten the bad side of the deal.
