After Apple announces the new Macbook Pros, is it much faster to place your order directly though Apple? Or can you preorder it through amazon to go tax free and still get it pretty quick?

And if ordering through amazon would cause a delay, how about something like macmall? Will they ship about the same time as the official apple website?

    Thanks!

I would imagine that Amazon and Macmall will still have to order their new inventory from Apple before they can start selling to the public. Might be faster just to buy from Apple directly unless Apple sells their new systems to resellers a few days before the official launch.

Thats what I would think also. I guess my question is more so of, does anyone know for sure how much time that would add based on past experience?

    Thanks!

Really depends on when they receive the new stock and when they decide to sell it. All of them use the same shipping services (USPS,UPS,FedEx), so actual shipping times will be the same.

If you're able to wait, I'd buy it on Amazon to save ~$150 on taxes (or Macmall, if they're tax-free as well).

Yeah, thats pretty huge.. plus I have prime and an amazon credit card, so I get tripple points on my purchases... A macbook pro is probably enough points to get a free laptop bag.

Technically, you're still suppose to pay that tax (Use Tax), but states don't even enforce their own tax laws (hence this "battle" between B/M stores and the Internet).

Anyway, good luck on your purchase.

normally I've seen you have to wait a few more days or a week if you want to get it from Amazon. If you pre-order a machine from Apple, you'll normally have it delivered to you the same day that Amazon gets theirs delivered to them.

    Ah... Thanks for the info!

Since I have prime, it should come to me pretty quick after they get it, so it should just be a few days extra...

thats the way to go... I do tons of business through amazon and love the Prime membership. I actually would spend more on shipping than the membership costs that comes with free 2 day on everything (thats from or fulfilled by amazon). I have an Amazon warehouse not too far away, and when things come from that one I often get them the next day instead of 2 days... they just send them ground, but its so close they show right up the next day.

I see no problem waiting a few days if you'll save money.

I do the opposite simply because I live in a state that has an Amazon distribution facility so I have to pay taxes on things I order from them. Back in New Mexico, I would use Amazon all the time and even paid for Prime membership as it was worth it. CDs, Blu-ray movies, and games would arrive the same day of their release and I wouldn't have to pay taxes.

Now that I do, most of my business goes to Best Buy and whenever Apple releases something new, I mainly just order it off of their website. I would wait the extra 2-14 days (I have seen some things take two weeks to get on Amazon) if I didn't have to pay taxes.
