    Hello Folks,
I just bought Aluminium Macbbok 2Ghz model, I use my notebook on a daily basis at my work and use it for around 10 to 11 hrs a day for normal browsing,Emailing and microsoft office stuff. I am in Canada and price difference inbetween 2ghz and 2.4 ghz Can$ 370.I bought this machine for a long term use (May be 3yrs) . So my question is it worth to spend another $370 and exchange it with the higher specifications one or should I stay with the one I bought?, Would I be noticing worth difference inbetween these two models while using?, I dont paly games on my laptop at all. Please advise me.
Thanks.I bought form Futureshop and can change it withough paying restocking fee. and difference in price including tax is Can $370.
    Thanks.

There isnt that much of a difference in speed unless you are doing Video rendering e.t.c

So no, its not really worth it....

But if you know, you should post which models of cpus the 2 CPU's are and how much L2 cache they have E.t.c so we have a better way of comparing the 2 for you :)

    Hope this helped you.

Stick with the one you have because it is very ideal for what you are going to do with that machine and you are not getting much more than what you have now for $370

I have a 600MHz Ibook G3  and that does the job fine for Word, Gmail, and Safari. So im guessing that the 2GHz MB will do the job fine.

I went through the same dilemma. Sure stick with the one you have. But I disagree that you will notice little difference. I had the 2 ghz one and exchanged it at Futureshop for the 2.4 just as you are thinking of doing. I found it's significantly snappier. The 2.4 ghz also comes with the illuminated keyboard, which is incredibly sweet. I didn't think I'd like it, but it's beautiful. The thing that happened to me is that I had an extended warranty for an additional $150. I returned the extra warranty and then upgraded the machine. Yesterday was also a sale at Apple Canada for $100 less than I paid; so, I got a price match on that. So, in the end I only paid an extra $100 for the faster machine. Finally, the 2.4 has a 100 gig bigger HD. If you're using it for music, you'll need the extra space in no time. The 2.4 ghz is more future proof. You'll be getting more should you need to resell it. So, I doubt in the greater scheme you will actually end up paying anything more for the faster machine. The faster one is noticably snappier, has a much bigger HD, and the illuminated keyboard. Well for the $350 extra. And if you keep an eye open (you have until 5 Jan to do this), you will find a sale which will very likely give you an extra bit of a cushion. I've tried both machines and the 2.4 is the way to go without a doubt.

I really appricate your detaild advise. But did not understand the pricing analysis.I bought mine when there was a overnight sale at future shop and they were offering $100 off of the both macbooks 2ghz and 2.4ghz. In fact if you go for apple student discounts ,it offers you same $100 off on 2.4ghz but on 2.ghz discount is only$50. So yesterdy's deal by the apply for Aluminium macbook 2.4 ghz was basically a student discount which they were offering to common customer. But for 2ghz macbook discount of $100 was a real deal compairing student discount, that $100 off thingy is already offered by futureshop twice .So after thaking $100 off U have to pay $1650 for 2.4ghz and $1299 for 2ghz and 5%GST and $5 recyling fee on both where I am which endsup total cost to $1740 for 2.4ghz and $370 for 2ghz calculating the difference of $370.One can get a deal price anytime on 2.4ghz one by getting student discount but on 2ghz you need to wait for a deal such as apple had yesterday or futureshop had it twice since those macbooks are launched.
So now my question is , Does it worth to pay $370 more to have 0.40 Ghz extra and 90gb HD and luminated keyboard?,

I'm curious about this too. I was just going to get the base model then upgrade the HD and save $150+. The backlit keyboard and extra frequency seem like it will only have less battery life. Not worth it at all if you're packing a lot which I will be. I highly doubt the extra processing power adds that much but I'm curious if it does much to gaming or whatnot. It's not like the core 2 duo is bottlenecking the 9400m any. Processors have come so far and OSX is not a bloated OS so I can't see the justification of the extra processing power for day to day business, but I do want to know if it would be worth it. Kinda the same with the memory but I think that's kinda pointless too.

I stand corrected. But is it worth it? If i'm getting a new macbook, I'm planning on upgrading the hd anyway. Apple student discount only cuts of 50 on the lower model but 100 on the upper so its either $1350 or $1500.

Well, for me it is. I do intensive graphic design and editing, but the OP said he is only doing word processing, surfing, so maybe not in his case.

I was actually reading a post on MacRumors.com and it said that a lot of HD movie watching load was shifted to the GPU due to the new architecture, so I'm not sure how much of a boost 2.4 would provide over 2.0. Gaming is mostly centered around the GPU, and both have the same integrated nVidia chip, so it should do fine. You could probably notice a slight boost in FPS with the 2.4 and more RAM, but if the games are as old as you say, I'm not sure it would make too much of a difference - it's more for the newer games. That said, I still believe it's the best to choose top of the line specs for any particular notebook model you are purchasing if you plan on selling it down the road.

I had the same dilemma about a month ago. I know I will be upgrading the hd later, so the difference is really about $350-$100=$250. I ended up with the 2.0ghz because I knew the 2.4ghz was just a bunch of numbers to me and I won't be able to tell the difference, the biggest difference was the illuminated keyboard, and to be honest, it is a cool feature. Worth $250 or not? Your own call. I thought of it this way. With the money I'd save, I'd spend that money on an ipod touch, so 2.0ghz + ipod or 2.4ghz. Now the decision was easy. :)

Definitely what I was originally thinking, but I compared it more to either getting two 1990 Ford cars or one 2009 BMW car. Obviously my metaphor is a little exaggerated but you get the point.

Really, only you can decide if it is worth it or not. I went for the 2.4ghz machine and am happy I did. I love the backlit keyboard, and like the extra CPU speed. Of course, I could do without them both and would still have a great machine.

The very fact that you are second-guessing yourself suggests to me that maybe you would be more satisfied with the upgraded machine.

Again, it is up to you.
