    Hi all,

I am new with mac os, thus been trying to find alternative to iPhoto.

I have looked and browsed through forums but could not find anything concrete yet.
Tried Lyn, Picasa, etc. But those are quite slow compared with iPhoto (IMHO), not to mention they do not work with gestures

My workflow usually involves 1st phase selection, so I import the photos to iPhoto library, view it in Full Screen, and using gestures (two fingers swipe) to browse through my photos. My problems are:

    1. I could've used the arrow keys, but I would've gone back and forth between the trackpad and the arrow keys which make it abit inconvenient.

    2. The way iPhoto needs the photos to be imported is a time wasting, though I unchecked the option "copy to iPhoto library when importing" (or something similar), I still do not feel that importing is necessary.

iPhoto does not allow me to just choose the folders I'd like to work in.

    So, any opinions on alternative?

    Thank you
    R

Forgot to mention that I do not need the editing feature. Just as a 1st phase selection and organizing photos

Just tested MediaPro. Very slow indeed compared with iPhoto. sigh.

Try with Adobe Lightroom or Aperture (like the professional version of iPhoto).

I use the first because i usually edit all my photos in Photoshop, i dont have any problems with it.

ACDSee Pro Mac. I've used ACDSee on the PC, haven't tried the Mac version. There is free trial download and it's cheaper than Lightroom or Aperature...currently onsale for $49.99. ACDSee also has the best "batch" processing IMHO (ie: batch resize, rename).

I personally would love something as simple as Windows 7's preview function for OS X with the ability to use gestures to cycle through the photos. Having to import into iPhoto is unnecessary and time wasting when all I want to do is preview pictures on an SD card and only copy the ones I want for my library, e-mailing, etc.

Do you mean the preview in Windows Explorer or the Windows Photo Viewer application?

Finder in Lion allows you to preview images and cycled through with the touchpad already. Similar to Windows Explorer.
