Just curious if Adobe has released info on the release date for CS4, or if there are any general ideas of when it'll be released. I reserved myself a copy of CS3 Design Premium at my school book store, but wanted to know if CS4 was even close to release before spending money on CS3 and then getting screwed over in a few months time. Thanks.

PS: Since the windows section is also used to discuss its software, I assumed that I can discuss OS X software here too, if not please move this thread to the right spot, thanks :)

    What, really?

Anyway, I'll leave this here, I'll consider it as discussing the Mac version of Adobe CS4 :p.

I don't think so...CS3 is still relatively recent.

Well it says Windows OS and Software so I assumed, lol. And yes, I am talking about the OS X version not the Windows version, haha.

I agree. I think they'd rather let it sit for a while and when people start complaining for a new version, then they release it.

this is really more "apple section". anything about the computers, ipods, os, accessories, software... since were only given one section we can talk about pretty much whatever is related to apple.

definitely not, Adobe does not release new versions very often, especially after a massive release like CS3.

and as far as I am concerned, they don't ever need to release a new version ^_^, unless they make some very very significant changes, like adding better animation workflows into photoshop/after effects.

the new photoshop interface is the best user interface ever created in my opinion.

Adobe makes products for both OSseseseseseses...and lately there has not been any difference in how their GUIs look and operate.
Also, CS3 is fairly new and judging by how often they do major upgrades I would say it should take at least more than half a year from today.

CS3 can do quite a bit as it is, is there something missing from it that you need?
As others have stated, it is fairly recent as far as Photoshop releases go.

Nothing missing from it, just CS2 and CS3 files had major compatibility issues. Main issue being: they weren't compatible, xD. I was concerned because I need to be able to open files in school, but if CS4 is released, they will upgrade to CS4, and I would have to upgrade myself too.

There never was a CS2, just to clarify.

Maybe it's the other way around (CS3 files not opening on CS2). I've heard it discussed in class where people can't do their work at home because we start in class and save to a USB drive to finish on our own time. Either way, having different versions can become a hassle.

cs4 wont be around for a while since adobe probably will have to rewrite most of their code to comply with the new code standards for leopard, and 64bit ofc

Just a follow up on this. It seems that CS4 for the Mac will not be 64bit, they will release that on Windows first. So CS4 could come sooner than we think.

With that being said though I do not think we will see anything this year, maybe mid-to-late 09?

If I had to bet I would say Summer 2009. I think they could release earlier and stay within their 2 year-ish release window because of the 32/64 bit mac issue. They have plenty of time to make the mac end 64bit compliant for CS5 and Apple needs to figure out what they are doing with it.

Well, CS4 won't be 64-bit for Mac, Adobe already noted, so they won't need to wait for that for CS4. I like the demos so far!

Yeah there is photoshop cs4 for mac right now. But you just need to "obtain" it somehow.

Anyhow, if its not official, that's not good...

Hm, I haven't seen/heard enough of it, I would say. It seems unlikely Adobe would pull an "Apple" and release with no pre-marketing, considering its nearly September.

Correct. Apple's version will not be 64 bit. CS4 is in beta right now. All Adobe has said was that after Lightroom 2 was released it would be a while before they released another 64 bit app. So we don't know when it will finally make release. However there maybe some pressure to release it sooner since CS3 does not run well on 64 bit Vista machines. It takes forever for tools and files to load on Vista 64.

Well, I think their argument was that Apple changed the coding of Mac OS X and Adobe doesn't have the time/resources to transition everything to 64-bit in time for Mac OS X, right?
