Hi Everyone. I need to share my internet connection with my brother, and we both have Macbook Pros. We dont have a router, and cant get access to one right now, so only one computer is connected to the DSL modem and online. We tried sharing Internet from the Sharing tab in System Preferences, but it would never work consistently.

Here is a bit of background, main question at the bottom:

We then tried using SSH, by enabling Remote Login on MBP1, then having him tunnel onto my computer using the terminal and SSH -ND 9999 username@ip , and after he logged in using my account info, and set firefox to use localhost as the proxy, he still could not get connected.

We then tried searching to see if there were any proxy software for the Mac, so he could connect to my computer via airport by using Create network from Airport options, and maybe then hed be able to use a proxy thats running on my computer. However,we couldnt find any. Well, there's squid, but I am really unsure about how to set that up.

So what we wanted to know, is if we bought VMware Fusion, and I created a WinXp virtual machine, set up a proxy server on it, and if he connects via Airport to my MBP, will he be able to ping/communicate and access the proxy server on the WinXP virtual machine?

This is kind of old, but it may help if he tries some of the steps there to connect to your machine.

It seems that it would be a better use of money to go ahead and buy a router of newegg.com or something, rather than spending 4 times as much on virtual software.
