I'm planning on buying Apple Care for my mac and I did a search on Amazon for reputed sellers. They all list Apple Care but how do I know whether it would support my macbook pro 2010 15" ? The only spec they give is 15" and above but no clue as to whether it's for my model or not. They have given this code though:

    B&H # APACPPMBP
    Mfr# MD012LL/A
The link of the listing ends like this: Apple_MC247LL_A_3_Year_AppleCare_for_15

    Apple 3-Year AppleCare for 15" & 17" MD012LL/A B&H

    Appreciate any help .

Update: This shows my mbp 15" 2.66 having code MC373LL/A. Would the above apple care work for me. When i went through the comments there was report of a user claiming she used it for her 2010 system.

Over the past 5 years I have come to the conclusion that purchasing AC from non-Apple resellers is too hit/miss and risky for later problems with the coverage being dropped (and I've bought AC x7 via eBay) to be worth the price differential. Too many stories of people, both here and online, being burned with warranty coverage that they ultimately don't really have.

The best way to do it, if you are not going through Apple or an authorized reseller (i.e. MacMall, etc) is to only purchase the current AC model number - you can find this in the Shopping Cart at Apple.com if you put it in - and *only* if you get it in a sealed box. That means no code-only or email sales. Still doesn't eliminate the risk, but this approach mitigates it as much as possible.

If you check Amazon you will see that there is an "old version" and a "new version". The new version is more expensive and you acutally get less since the new one doesnt have Techtools anymore.

There are sometimes some issues with using and "old version" serial number. Atleast I have heared people complain online. If the online form rejects the number you might need to call Apple but that should resolve it. They might ask you for proof of purschase or something.

If it says 15" and above it will work with any Macbook pro 15 or 17". Doesnt metter what generation or specs. It just needs to be with in the 1st year of standard coverage.

B&H Photo Video is an Authorized Apple Reseller and has a good reputation so I think you can buy from the with out problems.

The listing at the link I posted does come in a sealed box and they've got 147 reviews with avg rating of 4.5 stars. The seller B&H is quite reputed too.
I'll consider your suggestion though. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The thing is that listing has reviews saying that it worked for both 2011 and 2010 15"/17" macbook pros.

What i need to know is whether it'll work for my mbp 15" 2010. From what you've said I take it that it does. I would really appreciate it if you could you just check out the listing and let me know if all is well.

    UPDATE:

I did what clearskies had suggested and yep, that is the model allright. I logged into apple store, pretended to buy apple care and checked out the product id at checkout. It's Part number: MD012LL/A. I though they had different apple care for different releases (2010,2011) of MBP 15, 17".

Thanks for helping out clearskies and wave.

I have also been looking to get applecare for my mid 2010 13" macbook pro. I have been looking around and best deal i have found is apple store shopping through education store ($183) compared to $250. I have compared else where and the cheapest i have found is 200. I believe MBP 15" and 17" have the reduced price in education store.

That's interesting. BH stocks MBP 13'' Apple care for 193$. Wonder how much AC costs for mbp 15" and above. I can't avail the offer but it might help out someone else browsing through here.
