Question for all. How do you update the graphic card drivers in windows? Can you install the drivers offered from ATI directly? or you can only install bootcamp drivers from Apple?

I'm asking this because it is important to keep the GPU drivers up to date if you want to game on these macbooks.

I may be wrong, but I think the drivers update automatically. Apple only has to manage a dozen graphic drivers compared to the thousands of drivers for windows PCs. So I think Mac drivers update automatically with little/no problems.

    correct me if I'm wrong.

well with the Nvidia MBP, you could update the graphics drivers as Nvidia released them. I'd like to assume the same with the ATI drivers, but I'd wait for confirmation.

if you're talking about bootcamp then it's similar to nvidia's method.. but you download a full package that covers most GPU's. At least that's how it used to be.

Hmmm now if only anyone with the 2011 macbook pros could try installing the latest catalyst drivers on windows partition...I would like to know if it is possible.

The catalyst mobility graphics driver can not be installed. (it errors out and says there is no compatible graphics card)

Even though the driver does not install, Catalyst Control Center can be installed. This is what I really was after in order to fix the underscan issues I was having in windows 7 when hooked up to a 1080p monitor.

    Hey Guys,

Yes you can update the ones from ATI itself. The BootCamp program will update them, but they aren't nearly as fast at it.

As far as the catalyst, I did get that to work on my older 2008 MBP. However, imo its not as essential.

does anybody know for sure if the windows GPU drivers for the 2011 MBP do or do not allow switching between the integrated and discrete graphics?

Actually they did do that in the previous models, but with the advent of the sandybridge it is no longer user controllable.

Why wouldn't they eventually? All other manufactures allow for hybrid graphics why wouldn't Apple allow it under windows.
