Finally, I can send and receive media to/from friends!!

Also, my iPhone 3G seems to work just fine sending and receiving MMSs, while my girlfriend's iPhone 3GS doesn't seem to work. She can receive MMS, but anytime she tries to send one, she gets a red ! next to the photo saying "Error Sending Message. Try Again". I followed the same procedure to enable MMS as I did on my iPhone. OS 3.1 then updated carrier settings via iTunes 9.0.1.

So, what's everyone's iPhone MMS experience been like?

I couldn't vote for... "I had AT&T disable all SMS and MMS so i don't get that junk and have to pay for it" .. poll must been made on Windows, its buggy...

I also deactivated sms/mms on my iphone to save $5/month

I set up google voice. I have google voice sms messages forward to my gmail account (you can reply to them directly through email)...

and google mail supports push notifications on the iphone (as well as a variety of other devices that support push)

so i get instant sms via email.

so i get messages, of all types, with media and text, for free.

Very simple: if you have nothing constructive to say, don't say it.

Also, the question was directed to those who DO have SMS/MMS and will use it (like myself). It also excludes jailbroken iPhones, because we all already know about that.

I wasn't aware I'd have to explain that.

Title of the thread should be "AT&T finally get's MMS for the iPhone"
Since most of the world already has it.

Why is this thread in the apple section? Last time i checked it was " Macbook and Mac os X discussion " not " Apple product discussion. That point aside. My iphone is working good i sent an MMS to my brother to test it out and its working good. I dont need MMS that offen but it will come in handy. I gusse the days of " I have an iphone i cant send picture mail " are over. Ohhh the reactions on their faces when i said that were just priceless.

i believe there may have been some miscommunication. I was absolutely trying to be constructive!

i'm just offering info on a free working alternative to AT&T's txt msg service. It doesn't require doing anything illegal or jailbreaking or anything like that.

Anyway, I did get the notification that mms was available now, but I still deactivated txting so i wont ever know if it works.

    can you mms to/from non-iphones?

Yes. MMS on iPhone works as it does on any phone. I have a friend who has a Motorola RAZR. He snapped a short 5 second video as a test, sent it to my iPhone, and sure enough, I can play it.

Sorry if you felt singled out, masterchef. I wasn't pinpointing you with that post. It was a general statement to hopefully prevent trolls from making stupid comments. I've seen you around the forum, and I can say you aren't one of those trolls.

anyway, google voice + iphone os 3.0 is a solid alternative to ATT sms/mms.

it's free and works well, and that made it worth it for me. something to think about.

obviously not quite as seamless as built in sms, but you can save 60 bucks / year (thats two months of data plan / year!)
