I'd like some ideas on some ac powered usb hubs that are ideally <$50. If you use one and like it, recommend it! If you found one on the internet without actually using it or seeing a legit review, dont mention it! Ive heard of faulty usb hubs that can cause a computer to crash or (worst yet) fry a board. So I would like some experience with the product to back a recommendation.

    Thanks ;)

never heard of the board thing.

I bought a cheap generic one online 7 ports to 1. Works fabulously. Since I don't have it with me right now, and it's generic ( there's no company name on it ) i can't link you to it. I guess you probably want a trusty one? To help you out a little bit. you can just get a AC power-able one and then buy the power adapter separately: http://cgi.ebay.com/Go-2-0-UGT-MH30...e-Adapter_W0QQitemZ180171184277QQcmdZViewItem

I know for sure the D-link 7port USB hub is a good choice, but I didn't buy it because it was more expensive than the generic one i got. check out newegg and just search "usb hub" and sort by best rating.

I have another generic one, called a Silver Tulip, i googled it and found sites that sold it. Its only 4 ports, but it works fine, and it came with a AC cable.
I think a lot of hubs have the capability of being AC powered(they have a AC port), but they might not come with an AC adapter. So they may advertise it as a powered hub, but have no cable.
So that may be something to look for, make sure that the package actually has an adapter.

I'm currently using a D-Link AC powered 4 port USB hub model DUB-H4, works great for both my desktop PC and my MacBook. No problems with detecting all USBs connected to it whatsoever, even able to recognize 3 thumbdrives sticked into it at the same time (with AC power switched on of course). The hub also works without AC, but you could only plug in one device at a time, which to me kinda really defeats the purpose of owning a USB hub. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. For more info on the device, plz browse here
