    Hello all,

I would really like to upgrade my MBP to 8 GB of Ram as I use lots of VMWares in my job. I read that you can do 6 GB but I also saw some people trying 8GB of RAM on even older MBPs.

    I read this with interest:

    http://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs...ing-my-apple-macbook-pro-with-8gb-of-ram.aspx

I'm sure you have also seen the article about the MBP only doing 6GB and not 8GB.

Has anybody here tried 8GB? With the 17" supporting 8GB, boy I wish they would allow it on older MBPs.

I'm hoping with Snow Leopard that 8GB becomes an option.

I think that the 6GB "limit" comes from the memory controller.

The Mac Pro supports way more than 8GB, so it's definitely not OS X.

But then the Mac Pro has a different firmware as to the macbook pros.

We'll just have to see when snow leopard is released.

Interesting that Dell released a BIOS update (A13) recently that allowed support for laptops to use 8GB of memory.

Not that they are in the same place here as Apple, but I wonder if this is all that is needed to allow Apple and the MBP to achieve the same upgrade limit.
