Once you get used to surfing the web and working on these Macbooks I find them pretty amazing. The 4 finger swipe where you can just switch between applications and screens is a really nice feature to have compared to having to move the mouse to the corners on Windows 7. For basic web surfing and switching between applications and browsers I find this feature really great to have :D

When someone walks in and you have something open you simply swipe 4 fingers up and your current application that is open just vanishes like magic :D 4 fingers back down and it comes back down again :D

How are you guys liking your 4 finger swipe feature on your Macbooks?

Yeah, It's really great when you don't have a mouse, you don't have to move your cursor much.
And people try and say "My notebook has multi touch too". I just lol.

It's a feature that I can not live without! Whenever I'm using a Windows PC, out of habit I sometimes try a 4 finger swipe, only to be disappointed! :(

I've only been using mine for a week, but even then I find myself trying to perform a lot of the gestures on my work laptop (which is a PC).

The attention to detail is really something.

Got my new X201s today. While I like having that little laptop for trips. It does get annoying having to move the cursor to each corner every time you want to switch between applications or pages. Macbooks are addicting :D

I use the taskbar icons in Windows 7 to find running applications.

The four-finger swipe is pretty nice. I just tried it using my left-hand on my MacBook Pro. Very nice. I have my keyboard/mouse setup on a Windows workstation connected to my MacBook Pro via synergy. I can do the four finger swipe to view applications with my left-hand and select the application with the mouse using my right hand.

Hell i find the actual trackpad of the macbook to be addicting. Whenever I use a windows laptop the trackpad is always small and nowhere as smooth and fluid as the macbook not to mention how annoying it is when you are trying to browse a webpage and you can't use two finger scroll.

I don't get it... why would you move the mouse when alt-tab is so much faster ? (the flip3D with win-tab isn't that interesting in practice though)

It's a shorcut to alt-tab, so it brings up the same switching menu as if you'd pressed it.

A shortcut to a shortcut ? ;) I guess it depends a lot on everyone's habits on his computer. As my left hand is always on the keyboard, hitting alt-tab is much faster (for me at least) than moving the cursor (on a trackpad).

I used to think the same (Im a long time Windows user) but until you actually try it, you dont understand how easy it actually makes things.
I never use trackpads on windows laptops - but love it on the Mac.

Glass Track pad (very smooth), Multi touch, Gestures, Large Trackpad.

All of these components put together absolutely trashes any PC track pad that I've used. The scroll area on a PC trackpad is the thin stripe to the right and the bottom is really annoying. Not only is the stripe thin, it doesn't even work half the time.

With the MBP trackpad I found myself using my mouse much less. The one thing that I hate HATE about the Apple track pad though is the blasted stiff clicking. The whole pad is a button, which is great, but the button is way too stiff and is too loud.

you know you don't have to click, right? you can set it up to touch with 1 finger for left click and 2 fingers for right click. you never have to click anything again.

While the button is a little stiff I got used to it quickly and actually like it better that way now. I'm not big on the tap function as sometimes when I'm typing my thumb will hit the touchpad. I have become addicted to the touchpad on my MBP and haven't used a mouse with it yet. To be honest, I've been spending more time on the iPad than the MBP lately but I'm slowly starting to even out the time between the two. Of course I still have to suffer with a mouse at work (Windows set up :( ). If only I could find a good program for dispatching (or any for that matter) than runs on OS X, I'd lobby for a change.

That is another great feature I really like on the Macbooks as well. Having both the X201s and macbook Pro I would much rather surf the web using my Macbook than my X201s. The X201s is great for battery life and being compact while on the road but the speed of Safari and ease of use using the track pad simply can't be beat by your average pc notebook.

Four finger swipe is nice if you want to keep an eye on a bunch of long-running processes while you're working on an adjacent system.

How would you drag something? :S

Anyway I liked the trackpad on the MBP 4.1 the best. It was the only classic MBP with Multitouch.

The other great thing about the track pad is being able to just drag images from websites or just open a link of the image in a new window. Try doing that with Windows  You have to go to properties and then cop/paste

Tap, finger off, tap and without removing your finger, you can drag.

Can you compare the touchpad or rather..."clickpad" functions on a Windows 7 pc laptop or MBP?

PS. Do the Windows 7 multitouch functions work well? What pc are you using and can you offer any comment?

    Thanks so much.
I'm looking into a new laptop for college and I believe that the touchpad, over time, will be a big factor.

The trackpad on the MBP is the best I've ever used. I think pc trackpads are too small and not as functional as the one on my Mac. To be honest I haven't tried Windows 7 since it was in beta so things might have changed with the functionality.

All I know is that I have an X201s and the touchpad on my X201s is horrible compared to the one on the Macbook Pro's. When you are surfing the web it is just so much easier to work with.

Exactly! I go nuts at work trying to use those tiny trackpads, some of them are crazy small. It seems that someone at crunchgear feels the same way. I have a choice of three swipes to cross the screen or change the settings and its too damn sensitive. I've heard the trackpad on the Envy is the closest to a MBP even though it doesn't work as well (take it as you will since its based on other's views on forums).

the envy is a mac copycat. That's why it's having heat and battery issues. Anyways, the mac trackpad is a true work of art. Very aestically pleasing and very usable. one drawback is the glass material. I've read of several people having the glass layer cracking on their trackpads.
