I was just curious what the risks are/were on third party SSD drives. I may have just bad luck but on my Windows PC every single SSD I have every owned has gone bad at one point or another except for a factory Dell Samsung SSD, but that SSD drive was in the early stages of SSD and the advantages (Speed) was actually quite minimal. Every 3rd Party SSD had gone bad on me and I've had to RMA it, I have had 3-4 RMA's in the last 4 years the brands range from Corsair to Intel and OCZ.

So The Mac OS do not use TRIM unless the Kernel is altered according to what I've been reading. Only the factory Mac SSD drives are enabled to utilize TRIM. Now I have no idea how to alter the kernel or what that even means, although I could probably do a little more research and find out. But I was curious if anyone had any problems with the 3rd party SSD's.

Secondly, I still question the viability of using an SSD on a Mac, at least based on my own usage of my macbook. The gain of an SSD is clearly bootup and coming out of hibernation and running applications. However When utilizing the momentous XT drives I have barely seen any improvements or differences between an SSD (Apple Version) and a Momentous XT drive. Obviously there is a difference in bootup, but how often do you boot up your macbook? I constantly leave mine in hibernation thus I never really do a full bootup. Secondly, I never actually run more then 3 programs at any given moment. I had SSD drives for my alienware laptops because I'd game on them and it would cut down on my loadtimes for maps or things of that nature. But considering I don't game on my macbook I haven't really seen the full gains at the moment... Thoughts, and opinions would be appreciated, Thanks.
