I believe like the screen it differs from time to time. I'd imagine most of the time it'd be a Samsung, but not necessarily always. Given the premium and the ease of access, you'd be better off buying one that's guaranteed high-performance separately, then using the shipped drive as a Time Machine.

They don't offer the intel. I believe its only the Samsung. There's a link to an Anandtech article that comments on it in the SATA I or II thread in this forum

IIRC from the new airs, it's Fujitsu or Hitachi, some wierd brand that isn't Samsung.

Either way, they don't fully saturate the SATA 1.5 bus, so in effect they are slow and crappy compared to today's cheaper better offerings.

Just upgrade your self, you will be better off in the long run.
I think the Air's use Samsung, since they have to be 1.8".

Yeah, get one yourself, maybe not straight away... prices are constantly dropping. And Apple charges a pretty high price, just like they do for RAM.

The Samsungs are not necessarily that slow. But the OCZ Vertex is a popular choice - especially as there's a Mac version now. That's (the regular, non-Mac version) what I use on all my Crapbooks. The new Crucial is also supposed to be good. Read the SSD thread in the Hardware Components section for better insight.
