Does anyone have either of these connected to a Macbook PRO or whatever?

I want one of them....wondering if the 23 is enough, or if I should just go all out with the 30?

I don't have either, but I would say if you have the money (and room) go for the 30". But then again, how far away will you be sitting from it?

How jealous do you want your friends to be?

If you've got money to burn, go ahead for the 30". I'd personally get the 23" knowing what kind of finances I've got my hands on.

I'd go with the 23" due to the size and cost. The 30" is way to big to use as a normal monitor. You'd have to be 3-4" away from it really. the thing is just too massive to use at the same distance you would use, say a 19" monitor.

Agreed with hollownail. I tested both extensively before going with the 23". You really need to sit too far back from a 30.

I'd be sitting about 1 foot 1 1/2 feet away....2 max. But how COOL would it be though....good point.

I think I should go with the 30...isnt that everyones dream monitor? If Im going in 900, I may as well go all the way.

Can anyone with the 30 post pictures of their setup?

I'd really wait for Apple to update thier monitors before you buy one. Their prices and tech specs don't compare to what you'll find in newer models. 23" is a good size, 30" is way too big for a computer monitor, unless you're a professional.

I'd say to look at sizes in stores, 23" is a great size for gaming. Plus, the MBP won't be able to play games at 2560x1600 that good at all, so the 1920x1200 23" resolution ACD is a bit better choice, but the MBP will really struggle playing games with a 1920x1200 resolution.

For gaming you shoudn't get a 30"... since your macbook wouldn't be able to match that resolution during gameplay and it would all look like crap.

30inch bigger is always better no mater what. You can multitask more with a 30 inch.

    I know, I'm just jealous ;)

I'd love a 30", but I could never justify the cost.

Just imagine how huge that would be if it was a CRT!

you know what, you're absolutely right, I would much rather have two 23's than one 30 incher....it would cost the same.

Dont know if the mbp could support dualies though(actually triples if you include its own built in lcd)

I was curious about that too, but I think the MacBook Pro can only support one monitor. If I was to do it myself, I'd go with two 23" ACD's, but my Mac Pro can support two at once. I hope they do release something new soon though in the monitor department. If they can release a 20 and 24" monitor using a nice case and H-IPS panels with glass (iMac anyone?), and knock $200 off, I'll be buying one.

June 2006, as I recall. And then May 2007. So who knows? I honestly don't recommend the 30", and yes, I almost bought one, and money isn't a factor. Yes, it's subjective, but I recommend you go sit in front of one at an Apple store before you get it. I mean really sit in front of it. 52" LCD TVs look small to me in stores before you really sit in front of them.

BTW, I love my 23" and wouldn't want any other display. They are NOT outdated, and use better panels than 99.9% of the displays out there (IPS panels). Again, the Apple Cinema displays are NOT old technology.

Yeah I keep hearing they are old tech....but they are gorgeous in the store...hard to believe.

I like the 30....its crazy big...but love the idea of massive screen space.

going next week to buy one of them!

They've had the same tech specs for more than a year and a half so an ACD update and even a price drop are imminent. I do agree they're some of the best displays you'll find because they use S-IPS panels (I wish more companies use them). 30" sounds great because it's bigger, but same in my case, money wasn't a problem, I just considered 30" to be way too big for a computer monitor (even though I'm going to use my monitor for a lot of movies and games) so I went with 22", which is a great size for everything. My only problem with my Samsung display in my sig (which is new and just came out last week) is that it uses a TN TFT display, which is the lowest quality LCD panel, despite it's high responce time and contrast ratio, the S-IPS used by Apple in the ACDs should be really superior. I'll probably upgrade to a S-IPS monitor next year when they become more mainstream and more companies make monitors with S-IPS panels.

While the 30" might be nice:
    1. you have to sit further away;
    2. It takes up a huge amount of space.
    3. The monitor requires specialized DVI to drive the display (i.e. can't be used with a PB 12" or MB
