2012 MacBook Pro (non-retina)

besides the Ivy Bridge + HD 4000 + USB 3.0 upgrade... is there anything else thats new in the 2012 MacBook Pro (non-retina) model?

I'm kinda disappointed that theres not much(from what I see) in the non-retina MBP 2012 model. I was planning on buying the MBP 2012 w/ retina but the price was just too much for me. I was hoping that it would've been close to the $1000 range and have retina available for the 13inch model as well, but not the case here.

We know that you have very very little room to upgrade anything with the retina version but, anyone know if you can upgrade any of the parts inside the non-retina one? (SSD, ram, etc)

 

yes, you can upgrade the same things that you could on the 2011/2010/2009/2008 model. its the same chassis.

Aside the CPU, chipset and the 650m is basically the same thing that it was.

There are rumors that the mbp 13 should suffer a redesign we are thinking around the mountain lion time frame. its either that or the getting the boot. Afterall its a 4 year old design and in line with what apple has been doing for some time.

 

If you do the math and think that you can save money buying a "fat" 2012 MBP with 16gb of ram and 2.7ghz + high res LCD then seperately purchase a 512gb or larger SSD to install into it, it probably will end up costing you more than the Retina model.

Being that you get Retina + SSD in the new one and they are charging market value pricing for the SSD, it's a pretty good as long as you can afford it.

If you must seperate the costs, then the regular 2012 will have to suffice.

I'm still waiting on normal 2012 vs Retina performance differences to make sure Apple didn't downclock the GPU or do something stupid with the Retina model before I make a decision.

 

all Ive found so far is Geekbench... nothing specific to just the GPU... but ...

but the overall system Geekbench score shows them basically equal, even if the Retina got 44 extra points that can just be a fluke.
