Last year I bought my sister a macbook pro for her college graduation, fast forward 10 months and she is having issues with her trackpad. She is currently in Thailand so she is not able to take the computer to an Apple Store and since I'm stuck in the states I cannot try to fix the issue, so I'm looking for some help (I have never owned a mac and know next to nothing about them).

She says that the cursor on her screen is constantly moving of its accord and randomly registering clicks. She says its creating folders on the desktop, opening and closing programs, and making it very difficult to do anything on the computer. Apparently the problem went away one day but now its back. The only thing that she has tried is to reboot the system.

Should I direct her to downloading and installing new trackpad firmware?
I read about resetting "pram," should I recommend she do that?

I'm lost here having never owned or performed any troubleshooting on a mac

    Thanks in advance.

I've seen that same thing happen on mine from some condensation off a drink dripping on the trackpad and down in the edges... carrying some other junk with it... finger grease or whatever.

I just cleaned the trackpad really good and used some paper up around the edges to knock out anything that was maybe jammed up in there (finger skin particles or whatever) and finally it all started working again fine. Sometimes just food or other things in trace amounts stuck on the glass that you cannot really see, but kind of feel can totally throw it off.
