Having a bit of trouble with my dual-drive setup and my MBP (specs in sig). I've got a Crucial M4 256GB drive and a WD Scorpio Black HDD. Before, SSD was in the main hard drive bay and the HDD was in the optical bay via OptiBay caddy. Booted just fine, worked well, only issues were with the HDD. The drive would click and make a lot more noise in the optical bay versus being in the regular HDD bay.

When I got my Crucial M4, I put it in the main bay and moved the hard drive to the optical bay. Before, I was using an Intel 160GB 320 Series SSD (a 3Gbps drive) with no issues in the optical bay, WD Scorpio in the HDD bay. No problems there. When I put the Crucial M4 in the optical bay and the Scorpio in the HDD bay, I can't boot from the M4. My Boot Camp install on the Scorpio auto-boots, even when holding Option down at power-on.

Thoughts on a possible solution? I know that I can just put the HDD in the optical bay, but I'd like to avoid any sort of power management issues with the HDD (that I suspect may be happening with it in the optical bay).

your going to slow down your M4 putting it in the optical bay... why stick a 6gbps main drive on a 3gbps connection?

It should work though, so I cannot figure out from what you said, it might be something you've overlooked. You need to boot up off a OS install and check what disk utility reports.

Its possible its not seated well, or that whatever Optibay adapter your using just cannot handle the M4 or a 6Gbps drive.

The optical bay in the Late 2011 is a 6 Gbps connection, the Early 2011 had 3Gbps optical bays.
