    Was originally going with a ThinkPad but have decided on a Mac, trying to decide between the following;

    Refurb Apple Store $1319 CAD
    Originally released April 2010 2.4GHz i5
    15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display (1440 x 900 pixel)
    4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
    8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory

    or

    2011 Macbook Pro 13"
    2.3GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5
    4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x2GB
    320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

    Any comments appreciated

    Thanks

    I have it the other forum as well, main use is web, office, email but the main question is which is the better deal? Better with the 2010 or is there somehting in the 2011 version that makes it worth it. 13" or 15" doesn't matter to me but it looks like the 15" is the better deal, just want to make sure I'm not missing something

    if you want a bigger screen and higher resolution and the ability to do games better... go with the 15" refurb. The 13" seems better besides in those parts, it has a faster CPU (its 2nd gen i5, that 15" is 1st gen), and faster ram.... but its GPU performance will be a lot less... but for what you list you do, that will not make any difference.

    I was kind of faced with this dilemma as well. I chose the 15 inch with i7 2.66 ghz dual core, anti glare with high res., and applecare already bought for 1600 versus a new 15 inch i7 for 1700 + taxes and if I wanted anti glare its 100 more and for applecare, 250 more. so it would have been 2050 + taxes which is 13% in my country which is 260+ dollars which brings it to 2300. Is quad core worth the 700 difference (in canada)? no

    I wouldn't say that the 13" IGP performance is a lot less. In fact, the HD 3000 is pretty much on par with the 320m and the 330m isn't all much better than that. Games that take advantage of Nvidia's architecture are going to run better but that would be the same case when compared to the AMD graphics offered in the new 15" and 17" MBPs. There isn't anything on jeff's list that the baseline 13" 2011 MBP can't handle with ease. Even the baseline 13" is a better all around performer than the $2500 17" MBP released last year.

    While yes, I've noticed that my HD 3000 is very close to my 320m, the 330m is still MUCH faster than the 320m, if not twice as fast.
