    hi guyz...
this is regarding the MBP...which is better to get the 200 GB @ 7200 rpm for $260 or 250GB @ 5400 rpm for $198? Is there any significant difference between the two resolution? Or should I just get the slower version for cheaper which gives me 50GB more space?

Depends on if you would need the extra space or not. I'd go with the faster drive

I'd say don't get them from Apple, as the upgrade price is huge. Get them from NewEgg (199$ for the 200GB Hitachi and 180$ for a 320GB Western Digital). A 200GB 7200RPM drive is comparable to a 320GB 5400RPM HDD in terms of performance. If you want space, get the Western Digital and if you want speed (just a little more) get the Hitachi. I'd go for space, you'll have to chose.

Upgrading yourself with a macbook pro voids the warranty, though. If you can get an authorized repair shop to do it for you.

I'd recommend the 7,200 rpm drive, you can always get an external hard drive if you need more space, but you can't speed up your internal without replacing it totally.

I say it depends on what you are doing as well...
I just bought a macbook (black) with the 2.0 processor and 2GB RAM..I replaced the standard 160GB with a 250GB 5400 and it is quite quick..I wanted the extra storage becaus eI was going to make a dual boot system and wanted to give at least 80GB to the other partition..After being totally, totally miffed with paralle, I now have VM fusion installed and a full boot of windows xp pro for when I absolutely need my windows (netflix for instance) and it is incredibly fast and flawless...what a machine!

good luck any way you go..

My two cents now that I've got time...

If you are doing any video or audio editing, get the faster drive. I know Protools will not do it on a 5400rpm drive.

They have the same performance, so no loss there. There was a HD Tune screenshot of the 320GB in the Clevo section.

320 hands down. but from the egg.

    i have a 7200 200gb, i love it. the 320 was no where near production 6months ago when i bought the 200.

while its good for almost all my stuff... id like another 100gb

I sacrifice speed for space, but with this HDD you don't really make compromises. Of course, not many people with notebooks need 320GB.
