    I have a 2009 MBP 15" that's dead.
the Genius Bar says there's a flat fee of $300 ish to fix it.
would it be worth it to fix it?
Its not my main notebook, but did consider fixing it and giving it as a gift to a relative

$300 is right on the border of not being worth it for a system that old. However giving it as a gift would be a nice thing to do so the smile you put on their face might be worth the cost.

It should be $280 for them to do it. What they do is send it off to their depot where everything and anything problematic is replaced.

Given that you have a 15", I'd say that it's worth it. If you were to sell it dead, you'd probably get around $200-$300 for it. Fixed should fetch you $550-600.

Considering that you are breaking even on it, if you sell it now or after repair your net proceeds are the same, do you need it ?? If you need it, even as second computer then yes by all means repair it, otherwise... sell it and walk away
