Alright i was going to get a macbook with 2gb for i think it was 1749 or 1799 something like that. I was offered from dell though threw my univercity i can get a 15 inch macbook pro for 1999. This is all CDN prices btw. I Know its good amount more but i want a laptop that will last me 4 years of university! Do you think the upgrade is worth it? I would like having the more powerful graphics card just incase i want to game, i take it more mac games are coming out along with it having santa rosa on it. Also could i put more Ram than 2gb in pro in the future and last question how does battery life compare. Remember that im shopping for a computer that will LAST me so 200 bucks isnt that much in the long run.

I would say if you have the money then go for it.... i think macbook pro would have more useful life compared to macbook... like you said, you can actually upgrade your ram to 4gb next time which would definitely keep you up to date... 200 is way worth the improvements from a macbook to a macbook pro

    I agree.
If you are ready to spend that kinda money, go for MBP. You can buy that at Macmall for $1844 ($150 MIR).

You can expand upto 4 GB on MBP. And the new MBPs have LED backlit screen which gives them a 30 minutes more in terms of battery life (as claimed).

That's what people say. People want the latest and greatest of technology. The real question is if you're going to use these extra features and don't mind the extra 0.3 lbs gain + greater dimensions.

$200 + tax can buy you a lot of food and groceries.

With prices these days!? I'd like to know where you shop. I swear my local grocery store rips me off... :p

Anyway, on a serious note, if you're willing to pay the $200, go for the MBP by all means - it has several advantages over the MB, and it's light for its size (whereas the MB is heavy for its size). But if you need a 13" then it's a no-brainer.

    $5 lunch + $5 dinner = $10 / day

    $200 / $10 = 20 days

    20 days of food

    or

    extra footprint and more weight
    less battery life
    discrete graphics card
    ambient light sensor
    extra screen resolution
    aluminum casing
    expresscard slot

    let him/her decide lol

I do not agree about battery life. I had MBP and it hardly gave 3.5 hours on full charge (Wireless off, no music or videos, normal usage). I still have to test my new LED MBP, they claim that it gives better battery life.
