Hello,
I'm considering buying the model stated in this thread title. I know that the processor is an older T9600 model and not the more efficient P9700. What I would like to know from those of you who have this model is; do your notebooks run a lot hotter (and therefore noisier?) with this processor?
This would be my first Mac so I just want to understand how a particular advertised GPU feature in PCs translate to Macs; PC manufacturers state that their computers have graphics cards with (for instance) "512mb dedicated memory with up to 1791mb shared." If I understand this correctly the PC GPUs take memory from the RAM and that's what the "Shared" bit is. The Mac website doesn't mention anything about "shared" memory so how does this apply to macs? Sorry if this last question seems a bit remedial.
Thanks.
JM

t9600 at full power uses more heat but while not stressing the cpu in something films internet browseing, music and movies, the T9600 is cooler.
So depending on usage, one is better then the other.
If you dont believe me, search google for comparisions between the t9400/p9500.
heat wise, processors dont make noise, its when your processor gets hot and the fans cool it down and make noise.
your 9600m gt when be the same if not better then any pc gpu. its a GDDR3 512mb version which is the best made.
As for the shared stuff, im not too sure on what macs do but ram in a gpu hardly makes any difference unless playing games at very high res which you cant do anyway.
no matter if youve got a 2.8ghz gpu and a 9600m gt, you wont be able to play new games at the best settings and 1400x900. You also wont be able to play new games getting released soon at anything past half at native res.
9600m GT is now 1 year old and has already been replaced by the GT130m. -
Thanks for the reply.
I know that processors don't make noise, I was refering to the fans. With the 2.8ghz processor do the fans struggle to keep the MBP cool? I know these fans are always on at a silent 2000rpm but how often do they have to rev up? Do they constantly cycle up and down, is my question?
I've searched google for t9700 vs p9600 heat comparisons (it's not t9400/p9500) and have only been able to find information that supports the t9700 as being hotter than the p9600. -
The fans in the MBP doesn't rev up often as long as you're in OS X. In Windows, you can hear them most of the time, and they become quite loud when you game.

Budding, when you say the fans don't rev up often on OS X can you claim this specifically for the model in question, the 2.8ghz model?

I've got the mid 2009 2.8Ghz model, but from what I've heard and read, all aluminium Macbooks since mid 2008 don't have heat and fan problems in OS X.
