Does anyone know if the new 2.2 model has any problems? I've been hearing about like yellow screen problems, overheating etc. Is it safe for me to buy right now? I don't want a lemon.

P.S. Why do mbp hardware have so many problems compared to PC laptops. I never hear these case, heating, bending, lcd problems with PC's like thinkpads, sony, etc.

Yes, the flicker issue has been heard, but not everyone has had it. So I wouldn't worry too much.

The MacBook Pro hardware doesn't have that many problems. For one, Apple is still relatively new to Intel hardware. One of the main reasons there were issues with the Core Duo MacBook Pro was because Apple had to fit an entire new processor platform into the notebook, and then try to configure the internal parts to better control heat, etc.

And the LCD problem may have to do with Apple's pioneering of an LED-backlit screen. Apple's the first to release an LED-backlit screen in a mainstream product.

I'd say its safe for you to buy now. If you're really worried, maybe wait a few weeks. The Core Duo MacBook Pro got most of its issues fixed after Week 10 or so. You've posted so many threads about getting a MacBook Pro already :p.

I know...I just don't want to spend 2 grand and get a lemon. I don't even feel like going back and returning if there is a problem.

Didn't this predate the LED screens?

a theory i read suggested the flicker is a result of one of the sensors that adjusts the screen's brightness according to the level of ambient light. if true, is it possible to turn off that feature on the mbp?

The theory I heard had to do with voltage regulation.

Either way, it's probably minor, and most people would run their screens at 100% anyway. Unless you were in bed reading the web in the dark and didn't want to burn your retina.

The new SR are still more like the old MBP than not, so, the problems are likely to be minor.

You could buy a Dell or an HP or a Sony and still get a lemon, so...

Yes. I could see that causing some flicker problems. I know mine goes crazy when I leave my TV on in a dark room so I just turn it off.

I bought a 2.2 about a week and a half ago and I'm not experiencing any of these issues with either the screen or heat.
