Hi. I'm new here and this is my very first post ever.
I have an old macbook pro from 2006, and I'm planning to buy a new one.
I want to do a dual monitor with both to do video editing. But I'm a bit dumb when it comes to IT, cables, etc.
and before buying the new one I want to be sure that is possible to do this. I don't know with all the cable options, dvi, mini dvi, vga, etc. the old one seems to have only firewire and usb ports, plus the

Thanks for your help!

If you mean dual monitor as in use your laptop screen as a monitor for 1, and then buy a external monitor as 2, this is extremely easy. You just need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA or DVI (depending on your cables.)
If you mean dual monitor as in hook two external monitors up to your mac, then it will be a little more tricky, but still easy.
1. get that mini display port to VGA or DVI like I said
2. purchase one of these Dual Monitor Adapter - K33907US - Kensington or any other USB to video device. Depending on your resolution of your monitor, I would double check any device you purchase.
Good luck. -
Thank you for your answer! Actually there's not monitor involved here, but two macbook pro, one from 2006, and another one from 2010. So my plan is to use the MBP from 2006 as monitor, and the new one as the base.
I want to make a dual monitor set up for film editing. Is this possible, as the one from 2006 doesn't have an included DVI port?
Thx! -
I know this seems completely possible, but it is not.

no Macbook currently has any built in way to do video input to the monitor directly... i think only some of the newer iMacs allow that.

What you're asking for is a bit of a holy grail for remote computer management. The Synergy Open Source project has this as a long-term goal but they have next to no resources so they're not going to do it.
You can get some pretty high-res monitors for well under $200 that would get the job done. -
i knw a software that mkes it possible on window but on a mac unless apple has it implemented i don't think it's possible
-
What's the software on Windows?

Well this Maxivista works for Ipad too, so maybe it works with mackbook pro? -
Update: nope no OSX support, may be possible to use the MBP's as aux screens to a vista/ win7 machine
