hi i'm getting close to buying a new macbook and I was wondering how the performance is with 1gb of ram on the new macbooks. How fast is safari and other applications launch speeds. I'd like it to be fast and few hiccups with multitasking and stuff. Will one gig be good enough even with the integrated graphics taking some ram or should I get 1 gig of after market and have 1.25 gb or ram?

After market would be a better idea, because you're gonna end up with more ram in the end run anyways. 512MB just doesn't cut it. Safari loads instantly with the added memory as well as the only Apple programs load within a second as well.

Do you live in the States or else where? Depending on where you live, some of us could recommend good places for your after market ram.

You should experience Mac OSX with atleast 1GB of ram. If you run anything in Rosetta, I strongly recommend getting more!

I currently have 1.5GB in my MacBook Pro but thinking about buying another 1GB stick, for a total of 2GB.

1 gb is ok but if you going to do video editing and stuff like that I suggest atleast 2gb

Think of it this way, with the intergrated graphics, the graphics drain from system memory to work, taking from the total memory your system has to run applications, or games, ect.

So in this case its a good idea to get at least a gig of ram so that the graphics dont hurt your overall performance on your macbook. I have a gig in my macbook, i will eventually buy more to make it 2 gigs but the 1 gig will be fine for a while. If you read the reviews on the site one gig has done fine for lots of people.
