I hoped the 32GB model will replace the 16GB model for the same money. Memory is getting cheaper every day but it seems Apple doesn't know that.

I think its a good price. I mean, for $100 more for 32 GB of flash memory on the iPod Touch...I think that will satisfy a lot who wanted the iPod Touch but felt limited by the 16 GB.

And of course, makes the iPhone even more enticing by adding 16 GB as an option. I think $500 is a pretty good price...any lower and it would jeopardize the sales of the lower models.

Yeah I saw the news earlier... I thought apple was just gonna replace 8 & 16 with 16/32 and leave the same prices. Still, 500 is not THAT bad...

Does the new iPod touch use SSD hard-drives? Did the old iPods use them? I had a 30gig and it broke, returned it, got another 30gig, and this one broke again, and on apple.com it says it's "hardware issues", and that I need the harddrive replaced!!! It ticks when I turn it on then shuts down with a sad face.

Doesn't SSD mean no moving parts? So this wouldn't happen to the touch, right? I have been looking to get a new music played, but have been leaning away from iPods because of my experience with their bad products.

Yeah, the iPod Touch uses flash memory so its more reliable. The iPod Classic still uses hard drives though, as hard drives offer more storage for less money, but yeah, they're not as fast or as reliable.

I would estimate this summer, along with the new Intel ultra-mobile Silverthorne chip.

I'd say April at the earliest...the latest iPhone 16 GB release will need to be satisfied for at least a month or two.

Did you happen to drop either of your iPods often or did they ever hit something with a lot of force? Vibration is bad for the iPods, namely because the hard drive is made up of moving parts and if there is enough force applied to it you can cause some damage.

The iPhone and the iPod Touch have SSDs which are flash memory, which is one of the reasons they are so pricey for so little memory.
