Guys, I'm thinking of making the "switch."

What are your experiences with the 15" Powerbook?

    Specifically:

    Superdrive vs. Combo drive

    1.5 vs. 1.67 processor

Buying cycle- is this a good time ot buy a powerbook?

Price- Whats the best place to buy a powerbook? It seems hard to find deals...

    Thanks so much.

The powerbook is a beautiful machine, will impress anyone. Build quality is fantastic, and the new operating system, OS X "Tiger" is an exciting addition. OS X is actually quite simple to use, although it will take a little time to adjust.

In regards to the buying cycle, most Apple customers are hoping for a big update in the powerbook line, specifically a dual-core G4 or a G5 processor. It might be worth waiting for the next update because a large performance boost is on the cards...

You are unlikely to find a bargain on a new Apple laptop anywhere.
    Hope that helps.

Yeah, i just bought the 15" Powerbook last weekend and I LOVE it. I had never owned a mac before and I dont think Ill ever go back to windows. Personally, I chose to get the superdrive with the 1.5 processor because of the price difference. If I want to burn a dvd I will just do it on my desktop at home, so theres really no need for that. And the .17 Ghz difference wasnt worth over $100 to me. I am completely satisfied with the speed of my computer. I would just buy it now. They updated the Powerbooks in January and I dont see any major updates in the next few months. Maybe towards the end of the year, but do you really want to wait? I didnt.

I did it. Made the switch.

    1.67 Processor

    100GB Hard Drive

    15.2" screen

    Superdrive

I cant wait to recieve it. I spent some time at the Apple store in NYC, sitting in on some classes, playing with Tiger. I'd recommend it. Fun and educational.

I was able to get the educational discount ($225), and $100 printer rebate, and $100 Powerbook rebate, so $425 off plus free shipping was enough to rationalize it for me :)

Total was $2324.00, $2518.25 including tax.

Add the printer, and Apple care (I got it for $239 because of educational discount), then add in the rebates, it should come out to $2816.00 including HP Photo Smart All in One 261 printer and Apple care 3 years. A lot, but at least I'm done and happy.
