    Hey,

I am going to a new school that uses apple notebooks. This ****s me off because i have just bought an excellent M40. This will still be used as my gaming and and non school realted task computer.

So, anyway i have to get a 12 ibook or a 12 powerbook. I will use it for word, internet browsing, video editing, other school tasks and hopefully a few games because i cant resist ;) , nothing demanding, thats why ive got my M40.

So, 12 Powerbook or 12 iBook.

    Thanks, Tom

The performance on the PowerBook will be markedly better since not only does it have a faster CPU, it has a faster hard drive as well. It will greatly increases system performance more than the CPU. You could upgrade the iBook to a faster hard drive. I think someone posted a link here on how to do it. I believe they also mentioned it voided the warranty as you will have to take off the case which usually voids any warranty with all makers. Good Luck.

    Thanks for the reply,

What do you think about the difference in graphics cards. Not real sure about these old cards. 9550 32mb v fx 5200 64mb i think. Also, why do you have to crack open the case with the ibook for hardrive? Is this the same for the Powerbook? Is this the case for ram as well.

the ram is easy to change, just have to open one small cover. If you are doing video editing, i would have to also suggest the powerbook, it is much more powerful then the ibook, and will still get really good battery life. Plus the graphics card in the powerbook is better then the one in the ibook.

As far as RAM upgrade, for iBook, you have to take the keyboard off and unscrew airport card to gain access but for Powerbook, just unscrew 4 tiny screws on the back.

iBook vs PB...that's a pretty tough question...
I will go with PB if you have extra $400~500 to spare...
if not...go with iBook and max out your RAM.

I would definetly go with the iBook. You won't notice a huge speed difference. The iBook graphics gard is actually faster although it does have less VRAM. The iBook in the graphics department would outperform the PB. BUT is the PB worth $500 more for a 5400 RPM drive? The processor is 1.33 vs 1.5. So youjusthave to ask yourself is it worth $500 more.

For what you are doing..... get the 12" iBook and add 1GB ram to max it out. You'll still end up spending less. Also the iBook has more maximum RAM that it can support. Spend the money you saved on something else.
