a particular forum insisting it had a credible and reliable confirmed the 12.1 inch macbook pro would be released late fall (october - early november). so my question is, do you expect apple to release the g4 12.1 powerbook replacement at all and when can we expect an official announcement from apple? thanks. i'm really hoping it comes out.

There's been a million threads on this already, and at this point, it's speculation. Apple has not confirmed or denied this yet.

Yeah, Apple is usually pretty good about not leaking/releasing new product info till only 1 or 2 weeks (1 month tops) prior to it's official retail debut unless it's a super high profile product like the iPhone.

So unfortunately...who knows? That being said, right now I'm waiting for the release of Leopard and hoping some sort of new hardware accompanies it. Whether it be a MB or MBP, whenever the next hardware upgrade comes out after the release of Leopard is probably when I'll take the plunge over to OSX :D

If you want my opinion, I'd say there's bound to be an ultraportable MBP sometime, but I wouldn't expect it before MacWorld 2008. Apple has a lot of things to update, and it likes to have some time between each update so all products get media attention. Apple has iMacs, iPods, iPhones, LED MacBooks, LED Cinema Displays and software to update. I personally don't think Apple will add yet another new product to their lineup yet.

I'd expect an ultraportable MBP at WWDC 2008. And once again, just my prediction and speculation.

As others have pointed out, those who bought the 12" powerbook were vocal about how much they loved it. I personally think it was apples best computer to date. But on the whole, the unit did not sell well.

The only way to know is to wait and see. I believe (and hope) there will be one, but when is anyone's guess.

I agree with Sam that Apple has other products that it is probably focusing on for now. I would imagine that they would debut the new ipods before the busy holiday season. If the 12.1" mbp were to be a reality, I believe that we won't see/hear about it until 2008.

I will not believe that there is a 12" MBP until it shows up on Apple's website.

And yes, Apple has more than a few product lines to update before it goes into any new ones. Leopard, Santa Rosa iMacs and MBs (with LED), an update to the Cinema Displays, the 6G iPod, etc.

It does seem likely that there will be an ultraportable Apple notebook in 2008 though, since the MB is much, much too heavy to serve the purpose. If they had made it a pound or so lighter, Apple could have passed it off as ultraportable, but at 5+ lbs, its just way too heavy even for its size.
