Hello everyone,
My friend gave me his used macbook and I wanted to hook it up to external monitor like a 19inch widescreen. problem is when i check the resolution it only goes to 1028x768 and I checked out some other forums and most sites said that the hghest resoultion it would be able to go would be 1280x1024 on a 20inch and my navtive resolution for the 19 is 1440x900 so 1280x1024 would look terrible on my monitor. I know i have to get the mini adapter.
I am also thinking about getting a macmini but I would like to use this powerbook until i can afford it since it will have almost the same specs.

Are you talking about a Powerbook or a Macbook? I can't help you with the Powerbook, but the Macbook will go to far higher resolution (1600x1200 easily).
Just connect you large monitor using a mini-dvi to dvi or mini-dvi to VGA converter, your Macbook will recognize the monitor and you can change the resolution then -
The Macbook/Powerbook/iBook all support much higher resolutions on external monitors. They will all be able to handle 1440x900 via VGA or DVI easily, so it's nothing to worry about.
When you first plug in the monitor, System Preferences will pop up two resolution setting windows, one for your laptop monitor, and another for your external one. You can set a different resolution for each. -
Oh okay thanks yall,
Mac doesnt make of 12inch macbook mate. -

The first Powerbook 12" (from 2003) supported external display resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200, the last one 2048 x 1536. So you should have no issues getting the resolution you want, depending on what the external display supports of course.
