Its been rumoured for years...you never know with Steve Jobs ;). And most likely it'll be a 12-inch MacBook Pro than a 12-inch MacBook, so expect aluminum casing and the design of the MacBook Pro. That is, if it ever comes out :p.

There's been rumours about an Apple phone for years. Its hard to tell when Apple releases things.

Are you guessing that because there once was a 12" PB? If not, what makes you think so? Actually, I hope you're right - I'd buy a little 12" MBP right now if it were available.

I would expect a 12" or 13.3" Macbook Pro to be honest. But it's not inconceivable to have a 12" Macbook; there were two different sizes of the iBook, which the Macbook essentially replaces.

Yes, I'm guessing, but I'm making a more logical guess than random guess :p. Considering the MacBook is 13.3-inches itself, I don't see the benefit of launching another consumer-oriented Mac laptop just a little bit smaller than the MacBook. It'd basically be competing against itself.

I'd expect that if Apple decides to release an ultraportable, they'll release it to target the mobile business/professional user. The mobile consumer is already served by the MacBook.

You may be right, but I'm not sure a 12" MBP could be priced low enough to persuade many buyers (besides myself [IMG]) that the MB wouldn't be a more worthy purchase for the price.

Well, I believe if they do create a 12-inch MacBook Pro there would probably be a graphics card...to better attract the "still considering about the MacBook" people. Dell's shown its possible to fit a (pretty nice) graphics card in a thin 13.3 -inch notebook, and obviously Apple will one-up them by introducing it in a 12-inch notebook ;).

Of course, there's always the possibility that Apple will release a 13.3" Macbook Pro. It seems to be an increasingly popular screen size, and would probably be a bit more cost-efficient for Apple seeing as they could possibly use the same screens as the Macbook. Also, Apple did mention that they would move all their laptops to LED displays by the end of the year, and we know there are 13.3" LED displays (already in the Dell XPS M1330), but I don't think there is anybody making 12" LED displays yet.

Maybe Apple release another TabletMac line to introduce an ultraportable Mac to the market. But instead of being just a slim-thin machine it'll also incorporate a touchscreen interface similar to that of the iPhone. Nice!

My Macbook has enough smudges on the screen already, thank you very much. ;)

I bought a Macboook over a MBP because of the dimensions; if there was a 12" or 13.3" MBP available I would have gotten it in a heartbeat.
