    Hi there.

I'm way out of my home town here in the Mac forum, but here goes anyway.

I need the dimensions of the 11 inch Macbook air keyboard because it's the only backlit keyboard that has a chance of fitting my Clevo W110ER size wise. If it does, then I have much more chance of eventually getting it to work.

I need a relatively accurate width and height. Thanks!

    EDIT:

Forget this, the Apple keyboard uses USB.

So sorry I forgot about this, will do this tonight. If it helps its the same size as my Macbook Retina 15. But I will get the exact dimensions.

    Don't think that's necessary:

not only that though, apple uses proprietary connection. The apple keyboard mapping is totally different than a clevo or any other pc keyboard. And the apple keys themselves are different shapes/sizes than the clevo, which means they wouldn't fit in the individual key frames of the unibody. Sounds like a project that Ben Heck would love.

No, ignore this. I'm ditching PS/2 and going to use USB instead internally on my 'top.

Sorry, forgot I put that there!

I was aware of the unibody issue. I have a cunning plan surrounding that. I have access to a 3D printer and possibly a laser cutter, so if I could get an accurate image of the Apple keyboard (possibly scanned with a Kinect) I could print/cut myself a surround xD A lot shot, but this is a crazy idea as is.

Now in terms of "mapping" what specific issue do I face there? Is this a mapping of connections for the keyboard or to do with the talking of the keyboard to the system via USB itself?

Cool! I hope it works out and I didn't discourage you too much with my previous post.

KCETech addressed this in your other thread.

Honestly, this seems like an awful lot of risk of damaging your computer beyond repair for very little reward.

Since the keyboard is pretty damned terrible on the Clevo, I wouldn't call it very little reward. At the end of the day, whatever goes wrong, it should be reversible. I'll still have the original keyboard and such. The main issue will be with USB and whatever modifications are made there.

I bought this laptop making a few sacrifices and I'm sort of sick of the negativity surrounding modifications like this. I don't mind if my job is a bit rough or whatever, if it works and I end up with a nicer feeling keyboard with a backlight so it is usable in the dark and such then I'm happy. Prema modified his laptop to improve cooling. It was ugly, but it was effective.
