    Hi,
Ive update a Macbook from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, but after the initial download (around 250Mb I think) and reboot, ive been looking at a progress bar of 3% for what seems like ages....maybe an hour at this stage.

How long should this normally take, im not a native OSX user? Im tempted to do a hard-reboot but am I being too impatient? Also, am I looking at a borked machine if I do a hard reboot, or does Mac OS have the same kind of safety features as Windows (ie Restore point)?

    Thanks

You will not bork your machine if you hard reboot. I would think doing a hard reboot would be a good option, since chances are the installer's just hang for some unknown reason.

In the worst case, you could just reinstall OS X without harming your applications and preferences in any way. You can also use Time Machine to periodically back up your entire HD, if you have an external or networked HD at hand.

Thanks. Its still at 3% so im thinking it is frozen. Will give it a hard-reboot shortly if the progress bar doesnt move.

I didn't know I could reinstall OSX without losing apps etc, so that has taken a little load of my mind. Cheers.

Did a hard-boot and everything is AOK. Phew! (not my machine :D)

Not going to bother with 10.5.7
