If I'm using the computer in a public place what is the quickest way to lock the system?

I have expose set up to start my screen saver, but is there a way like in windows to hit windows + L to lock it?

Open up Keychain Access and select Preferences. Select the "Show Status in Menu Bar" option. A padlock will show up in the menu bar. Clicking on it will give you a list of options one of which is to lock the screen.

    Yeah, what duffy said. ^^

    Some tips in this article.

Open Keychain Access.app and go to Keychain Access > Preferences. Tick the box 'Show Status in Menu Bar'. Now you should have a lock in the Menu Bar, click that and select 'Lock Screen'.

that is a nice tip, the quickest way would be to just use expose to start the screensaver, and have it always set to lock the screen.

but I find that very annoying, it is nice to be able to just lock your screen only when you really need it to be locked, instead of each time your screen saver starts up.

If you want a hot key, you can press Cmd-Opt-Eject to put your computer instantly to sleep. This will only help you if you set your computer to require a password to wake from sleep.

also, if you want to log out you can just press Cmd+Shift+Q to log out, you will also have to press return to confirm.

there is probably away to logout without having to confirm as well.

yep, there is, Cmd+Alt+Shift+Q, to logout without any confirmation.

Yeah I really wish OS X had a way to lock the machine quickly with the keyboard. Not log out, not to to sleep mode, just lock it like ctrl + alt + del then "enter" in Windows.

You can do that in Windows in a fraction of a second, but whenever I lock my Macbook it always takes me a few seconds to go up and click the lock then then lock the screen.
