Is there a way to select files and move them to another folder on the hard drive without making a copy of them?
It's a waste of space when your limited or you just can't do it without running out of space.
In windows I just right click and choose move.

Clicking and dragging shouldn't be copying the files...?

I highlighted 3 files while holding the shift key down. Then I clicked and dragged them to another folder. It copied them.

Hmm. That's weird. It shouldn't be copying the files...
I'm not sure what the problem is. I'd wait for someone else to reply on the thread... sorry? -
Clicking-and-dragging only copies files when you are moving across volumes. For example, when moving files from an internal hard drive to an external. Or if you hold the Option key while clicking-and-dragging. Otherwise the files are moved, not copied. If you are moving files between volumes just delete the originals after they have been copied.

How do I move them to a mounted drive on my hard drive without copying them?
Is there a way? I'm limited on hard drive space and need to move some to a secure encrypted area. -
hold while dragging, that will force the move where the default is generally copy. to copy while dragging (if it doesn't automatically do this), hold option.
