...and I haven't noticed any huge problems like when the original MBP's and MB's came out.

    I haven't had any problems on mine...yet.

Is Apple quality control getting better?

Yeah I haven't had any problems with mine. Considering it's been on almost 24/7 for a year. Still waiting for it to have something go wrong from this over heating "problem".

All of my 17-inchers are still sagging slightly about an inch from the back to a variable degree, which is understandable given the inadequacy of the unibody design. Not a debilitating issue though. At least it doesn't suffer from the assembly integrity (or lack thereof) issues with the older machines since the more automated process can compensate somewhat for the still crap quality control - I think that's essentially what you're seeing.

Had some serious problems at the outset with the 15-inchers, and since then I've abandoned that general size / weight class so am not in a position to update.

Definitely had fewer build-related issues with the 13-inch MB/MBP's though in comparison with the disastrous plastic Macbooks.

FYI, Apple does not have a six-sigma (quality control) system.

I'm glad to hear that Apple's build quality is (still?) good. I plan to buy a laptop at the end of this year and a 15" mbp is one possibility...depending on if there are other good looking laptops out there. I'm so happy HP made the Envy 15, I know it's a mbp knock-off in terms of design, but I like the look so it gives me a choice. (Sorry for going off topic)

FYI, Six Sigma is not quality control but a business wide management strategy. Like Lean manufacturing or Toyota's Production System

If Apple has anyone educated to the fifth grade level, then they'll have quality controls, like failure testing, statistical quality controls, Kaizen, etc etc etc

I had my 13" alu MacBook for 10 months and its on 24/7. Snow Leopard was installed with no problem and I can boot XP directly from the bootCamp partition or boot the BootCamp partition through VMware Fusion. I had no problems at all and I am seriously thinking about getting Apple Care (my warranty expires in Dec) since I can't think of any other lappy I would rather have to replace it with. For me this is new territory as I have never considered keeping a laptop for so long before.
