    Hi

    I'm about to buy a MBP and have read a few reviews on the intaweb. Most are full of glowing praises but this 1 guy have this to say..

    I know that it's only an opinion of 1 guy, but it still got me a little spook. Is he just unlucky and got a dud. Reassure me please before I drop $2000+ for a MBP.

    The yellow lower 1/3 of the screen was a known problem in the early production. It's not an issue anymore now.
    He's right however with the viewing angle. The LED LCD when viewed from the side will have a yellowish hue. It's not as bad as he described but it's there.
    I suggest you go to an Apple store and check this out and see if you can live with it.

    I'll put it this way. The MBP has one of the best displays you will find on any notebook.

    @dugdug

    Thanks for your advice, I'll have a close look at the screen at an Apple store. It's gonna bother me now that I know where to look. I hope it's not too bad.

    @duffyanneal

    I take it your MBP doesn't have the yellowish hue problem?

    I hope this is not a general MBP problem but just a few rare cases. Fingers cross. :)

    Well said!

    The screen is anything but horrific. It is simply the best screen i have ever seen on a notebook period. Resolution is a personal preference, 1440x900 for a 15" is not bad at all.

    This guy is talking out his a$$, not all or most have these defects. A select few, and likely some of those first production units were defective. It doesn't matter if they are defective or not, Apple will replace them.

    Again, massive exaggeration. The screen is quite viewable even at extreme angles. But it is true that the screen goes golden in color at these angles. However, if you go to 'Display' in Preferences and change the color to one of the bluer ones, the display looks normal when viewed at angles.

    Fact of the matter is, everyone will go LED sooner or later, it is inevitable. LED is not bad at all, i think it is better than normal LCD displays.

    3 weeks of repair?!? I highly doubt they would do that. Kernel panics are not very common. Even Microsofts BSOD is hyped, they are not as widespread as they used to be.

    Bottom line, weeding through most of the BS this guy makes a couple good points at most. Stop worrying and buy it.

    Bought my MBP about two months ago from the store in Manhattan and had no problems. Actually I bought one and my twin brother bought one also, and he's got no problems either. Completely satisfied with my purchase.

    Thanks for the assurance guys. Will get one soonish. :)

    @BlueSky292

    Can you try what SaferSephiroth suggested and get back to me whether it helps with the hue problem or not?

    Dizzy:

    First of all, the yellowing screen was more of an early issue with the new LED-backlit screens, and are much less common, if it even is still an issue at all.

    And also, most users who actually had the yellow screen didn't notice it until they ran the test. So its not as "scary" as it sounds.

    Also as others have pointed out, those with problems are more vocal than those without, even if they're by far the minority.

    I have a MBP from the first batch and there are absolutely no yellowing problems at all. In fact, earlier today I watched a movie with 2 others around the MBP and i was at the outer edge and even at that angle, there wasn't any abnormal yellow tint at all (more than normal I mean - at that angle, all the colors look a bit odd, but yellow wasn't any worse than red or blue).

    Are you referring to the yellow tint when viewed at an angle (i.e., that it should not be yellow)? If so, maybe I need to bring our MBP in, because it's pretty darn yellow.

    I don't know what you guys are on but the yellow problem was never fixed. You still have a chance of getting a bad screen when you buy a Macbook Pro today. A good chance too it seems.

    I went to the Apple store today, and the two 15.4 MBPs on display also had plenty of yellow tint when viewed from an angle. The Apple dude said, "that's just life with LED screens." :(
