    Hi

I'm trying to find out about these features and can't find an answer.

With .mac, can you view your iCal on a web browser (e.g. from my windows PC in the office)? At the moment I use gSync to sync iCal with gCal.

With a .mac mail account, can you view and use your email folders when you view your mail from the browser. Ie. if I set up a bunch of folders in Mail, will I still be ale to access and manage them when viewing my mail via a browser on my office Windows PC?

    Thanks

    K.

Since your .mac mail account uses imap, all changes are stored on the server, so changes you make in Mail will also be present if you check your mail anywhere else, and viceversa.

As for iCal, there is no option to see it on a web browser like you can with mail on mac.com, however, if you have it synced with gCal, I don't see why you can't use that to view it outside of your computer.

Thanks, for iCal that's what I figured. gCal is ok but not automatic... or maybe it can be I will look into that :)

I like the idea of 10Gb online storage and with a shared folder, but I don't *need* it. iDisk would be nice but I would probably have trouble getting the app installed at work.

My current mail provided gives me folder access whether on mail or from a browser.

Being able to keep my address book in sync by using iMac would be nice but I can cope without it.

It all seems to add up to .mac being nice but not nice enough :)

Exactly! Imo, what apple is trying to sell here, is convenience, integration, etc. Because you can get all of this services either free or at a much lower price. So it's up to you really.

I wanted a .mac email address just in case google decides to pull the plug on email one day, I can feel safe to have all my work related email there. Now I have an iChat account with the @mac.com email which is nice. I will probably use the Back to My Mac feature on leopard since I sometimes leave my laptop at home and need to access my files. I like taking a lot of pictures so the web galleries will be nice. Don't have a website, but when I travel I want my family to read up on what I am doing, so iWeb will be nice to create a blog and integrate it with web galleries. Sync is great when you do a clean install, you dont have to worry about backing up your address book, bookmarks, Mail rules, iCal database, etc.

I love all this integration and not having to worry about it and the 'backend' of the services. And that is why I will pay the $99 when my trial is up.

If my budget was tighter then I would probably find alternatives, which are not as nice as having .mac, but they do the job.

One thing you should know about iDisk though, is that is uses space on your hd as well as on apple's servers. So if you have 7GB backed up on the server, those files are also on your hd. Something you should know just in case you are running low on space and plan to buy that.
