anyone have advice on which program to use to playback .rm files?

Not a huge fan of RealPlayer (I used to use Windows Media Player Classic in XP to play .rm files and was wondering if there was a similar Mac alternative)

I've tried running it in VLC and was able to get some sound out but no video.

    Thanks!

<strike>RealPlayer is the only player that can playback .rm files. I think it's got something to do with the way RealNetworks licensed the file container.</strike>

EDIT: MPlayer can play .rm files in OS X. However, I believe that MPlayer is an even worse media player than RealPlayer. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

I had this same problem about a month ago, tried everything, nothing worked well enough, so I had to use realplayer. You can get the direct download for v10 here... without having to fill out forms etc etc.

ps make sure you deselect file associations when installing, other wise RP will over take your system like a virus.

lol underpantman. Real player is no where near as bad as it was on Windows years ago. THAT used to be terrible. But I don't have issues with it trying to play anything other than RM media when installed by default.

But sadly, there is no alt to RM that is good on OS X. As Budding suggested, there is MPlayer, but it sucks. There is no viable alt to MPC.
