    Hi

    I just have a question

I have a good deal on this drive

    WDBACX0010BBK-EESN

Which is a USB Drive from WD 1TB

    here is a URL

    Wd WDBACX0010BBK-EESN - Compact 2.5" - External hard drives - ONOFF

I'm just wondering if It can fit as an internal HD for my MBP

My MBP is 13" 2010 Core 2 Due

I will just take the interal drive out, and convert put it in the case of that one, and get that one inside

Is it possible, is there any restrictions on drive height, how do I know the drive height inside this one

    Thank you!

Western Digital external drives typically use a proprietary SATA connection that renders them incompatible as an internal drive. Even if it had a standard setup, the drive would be too tall for internal use. You need a drive that's 9.5 mm in height.

There are restrictions on the height of the hard drive. You MBP can take only a 9.5mm thick HDD. From my experience, most of those external HDDs are 12.5mm since they are less expensive and more abundant. You would have to contact Western Digital to determine the thickness of that drive and the interface it uses for connection. Oddly enough, at least in the U.S., that is way more expensive than a 1TB drive from an internal Samsung or Western Digital 1TB HDD that would actually fit in your MBP.

the older passport wd external drives from 2008 and 2009 or so... they had a simple sata to usb adapter in the passport housing that could be unplugged from the bare drive... then you could use the bare sata drive however you liked.

But WD change all of that on their newer passport external drives by using proprietary connections on the drives to prevent the drive from being used for purposes other than as an external passport drive. It's weird, I don't know why they do that or why would they care, as long as they sold them. Unless it took away sales from their other bare 2.5" drives.

    *I think WD makes a 5400 RPM 9.5mm 2.5" 1tb drive for about $150 USA.
