using RBE bios editor for 5850

Heya,
I was learning to use RBE - Radeon BIOS Editor and messing around for Mobility HD5850.

I had a problem finding the Subvendor ID/Video Card ID? Can someone point me to which one is used by Dell? and which one is for the Mobility HD 5850? also any other pointers would be appreciated or warnings.

do not mess around with any of those things. just save your original bios using gpu-z and open it up with rbe.
only edit clock info 00 or 01. rbe is a dangerous tool in the wrongs hands, messing around with anything you don't know may end up bricking your card.

 

Thats what I did but I get an error when I want to save the BIOS. Error writing Subvendor ID.

EDIT: is my current VBIOS corrupt or wrong?

 

try using verssion 1.26 of rbe

 

This is what it looks like, but Inap is absolutely correct; these should not be changed or altered. Nothing on the first (opening) screen of the vbios should be modified.

Most of the action is on the Clock Settings screen. For 99% of people, all that needs to be considered are the settings in "Clock Info 00." These are the boot/3d clocks and voltage used by the 5850 and that are adjusted to overclock. Good idea to be conservative on your first try. When finished, save the vbios with a distinctive name with the .rom (or .bin) extension. If you o/c to 750 core and 1050 memory, name it 750_1050.rom to distinguish it from others. Then copy to a bootable ram stick and flash it to the card. Don't guess. If you're not sure what to do, ask someone.

Thanks for the tip Lacey. Ive been messing with clocks for the past week. I found that my laptop works optimally with nice stable temps when 3dclocks are OCed to 800/1075 and 2D 200/320.

 

I'm getting the same error with v1.27. Never seen it with v1.25.

Last question is ATIFlash version 3.79 safe to use or I have to use a special version for that as well?

Ok so I realized that it had nothing to do to my 2D clocks... you remember the crashing of the youtube videos and flash videos I was talking about a long time ago?

I noticed that when my video card wanted to use its power to process a video it did not like to do a 500/1000 clock with a .9 voltage and thats what made it crash the whole time... I had to change the voltage of .9 in RBE to 1 for Clock info 2 and 3... and all my crashes are gone for good now... and my 2d clocks are back to default. Its weird that Im the only one with a chip that has this problem but oh well... at least I can OC to 850/1100 easily with 1 if I wanted to(which I wont cuz I dont need to).

 

well i'm glad you got it all sorted out. you may have a super card and not know it, hahahaha

when i was benching i got mine up to 985/115 @ 1.15v. I know dane got his card beyond the 1k mark.

I had one concern, so I was playing Dead Space Max graphics 1080p but my clock speeds were only 300/400 but I had 0 stuttering and no frame rate lag at all... and my temps seems to be fine when I goto RBE and see what 300/400 clock means it means my GPU is running too hot? is this true or it didnt require full power? what am I doing wrong? I only get 64C max why does it think its too hot to use 300/400 instead of going to 800/1075?

They should really add an extra indicator to that thing if its on or off not just by dimming it or what not. Theres a ton of unused space in that row and I'm sure they could squeeze in a stealthmode on or off on it.

 

I think its a stupid button to have anyways... I would prefer a button that OCs your laptop not downclocks haha

i want to lower 2d clock 157mhz / ram 300 at 0.95 ,...but i dont know how to test lower voltage... MSI afterburner let me set minimaly 300mhz for gpu

 

ATI Tray Tools should allow you to test the voltage before flashing, should work with the clocks as well.
