I just upgraded my cpu from an i7-740QM to a 940XM. I reran the WEI and it still only gives me a 7.1. wouldn't you think I should have gotten better than the same rating for an i7-740? Also my CPU fan comes on more often now;is that normal. I think the 940 was once offered from Dell as an upgrade so I assume its mobo compatible. Oh buy the way the CPU is an ES I got it from someone who sells aftermarket hardware. I paid $450 for it.

That's not unusual. It sometimes takes several runs for WEI to properly recognize new hardware performance. You can accelerate the process by nuking all prior WEI test data, but it will take care of itself soon enough. Re fans, what are your CPU temps - idle and load - with the new 940xm?
-
how do you get those? My pc never even gets warm

Real Temp is a good place to start.
Download Real Temp 3.60 | techPowerUp -
Get the program hwinfo32
HWiNFO32 Download
Can't do proper formatting on the phone
About the windows performance index, yeah it can be sketchy.
Did you try any other benches or have any real app comparison. -
Hey Revelator and xeroxide thanks for the heads up on those 2 programs!!
-
WEI is fun to run, however, it's hardly the most accurate benchmark tool. Case in point... my desktop has 3 10k raptors in RAID 0.. 200-250MB sustained... I still get a 6.1 for hard drive benchmark Even 15 300GB 10k drives in RAID 0 don't get a 7.9... it's not fair
The thermal dissipation of the 940XM is quite a bit more than your 740QM hence why your fan is on more often... nothing to worry about as long as your temps are good
HWinfo32 is my favorite program to check temps as well...i highly recommend getting it
Run Wprime with 8 threads 1024M and see what your temps get up to... quick and easy test for that -
On my 920XM I'm getting 7.4 so you should be getting like 7.5 at least
7.5 Harddrive -
although perhaps wei is taking more than just sustained results. random read write's and more importantly iops are still vastly superior in ssd's than hdd arrays if i'm not mistaken. -
Just installed 920XM(ES),IMO not so different from your 940XM,here's the average WEI score, along with CPU idle temps,as a reference.
-
Revelator showed me how to delete all the prior WEI results. I reran the assessment again and I got a 7.6 cpu 7.3 mem. 7.4 aero 7.4 graphics 7.7 disk.

Or you can just edit the results yourself, haha
PS: You can set a regular signature in the user control panel... here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/profile.php?do=editsignature
Hope the link works. -

Worked for me. Pretty cool. Thought at first you were hacking my sig. LOL.
-
I wouldn't think of posting hacked scores.

I think my system is fooked up...
My WEI score is definitely low for my rig, I ran it 3 times rebooting between each run and still only get a 6.1 for my CPU...
I did a single SC2 TvZ @1920x1080 (external LED monitor) and everything to Ultra and CPU temps went up to mid to high 90s... GPUs however never went above 62... I did reTIM my GPUs thinking now maybe I should do the CPU as well.
I also have my laptop sitting up on a metal wire shelf so there is maximized airflow getting to the underside of it...
I attached a screenshot of my system and WEI window... think my SSD is kinda low as well...Attached Files:

When I first ran the WEI I also got 6.1 for cpu 5.9 for SSD. I reran and got 7.1 cpu 7.7 SSD. Deleted my previous test scores,OC'D my GPU a tad, ran it again got 7.6 cpu 7.4 aero and graphics, 7.7 SSD. Try that I bet you get better scores. To delete previous scores windows/performance/WinSat/DataStore. Thanks to Revelator

On the phone with Dell support going to put my warranty to use. He is remoted did some checks. Of course he first thought it was stealth mode but now he thinks 1 of my 2 GPUs is going bad. Probably going to replace both. He has been using 3dMark06 and just installed CPUz cause the FPS on the CPU test was .44 a 940xm should be higher. My overall 3d06 score was below 6000 pretty crappy. It was over 19k out of the box.
-
My GPU temps never got above 46c during a 3dM06 run. CPU on the other hand hit 100,93,99,89 on each of the 4 cores.
CPU fan hit max 3857 RPMs. GPUs 4004 & 4117.
Curious to see what happens but I need by Monday for NCO Academy. -
they are going to replace both GPUs and the CPU as well as the fans... Just gotta wait for repair guy to contact me hopefully tomorrow

@usmc362
i did that you did on deleting the WEI scores. Didnt really help but w/e WEI isnt really a good tool to measure your systems performance... My scores got lower for some reason
On a side note where are you stationed at Devil Dog?
I got out about 8 months ago, going to school using my IVG then my post GI Bill
Yeah I to was in the Marines Good times... -
Hey Nivaku my brother. I served in the Corps 1962-66;so I'm an old fart. I still have a great love for the Marine Corps and I guess I always will. Ah, remember the fun times at Parris Island!! When your'e going through it it's HELL but when you look back at it it's downright funny at times. Were you in Iraq or Afganistan? Glad your'e home safe!! I was stationed at Camp Lejeune was in during the Cuban missle crisis on an LST waiting to invade Cuba.Thank God the Russians blinked first.
upgaded to 940XM
